I was thinking of trying to get a few comics to kill some time this summer. What would be a good series to ask for that has alot of the original characters or classic story arcs?
Astonishing X-men is a cool book. Also try and read Civil War and New Avengers if you are a big fan of Marvel. Pretty much anything Marvel ties into the civil war except the Ultimate line (which I also suggest reading.) DC books just got off Infinte Crisis so alot of the books are easy reads without too much confusion.
If you wanna start with the very first stuff, then Essentials are your best bet. While they lack colour, you get a HUGE amount of issues in each volume, a good way to start off a Spider-man collection would be getting Essential Spider-man 1-7, that'd give you the 1st 100 or soo issues of The Amazing Spider-man and a few of the annuals.
Essentials come for all heroes though, I've seen Punisher, Daredevil, Wolverine, Silver Surfer, Avengers, X-men (Essential X-men and Essential Classic X-men), Captain America and many others. They're great for building the foundations of a solid collection.
