Haunt

Excellent and unexpected. It's essentially a house of horrors movie that really do hone in on the performances from the cast. You totally expect them to be obnoxious, but they never really do which was refreshing. It's similar to Hell Fest only it's way more focused as a theme park ride and the performances weren't as strong as in Haunt. They do a good job on not relying on jump scares and they do a good job showing menace from the villains even though a mask. Katie Stevens plays the lead and she does a solid job carrying a lot of the main plot along. Also she looks a lot like a young Rachel Weisz. My only grip were the villains towards the end where they got pretty sloppy. Overall, it's definitely a gem of a movie that horror fans should totally check out.
9/10

Joker - 8/10

This is close to great. The only problem is the handling of its themes are played too broadly sometimes, especially towards the end, but for the most part, this was a solid script in execution with a solid arc. A character study about this ignored guy being part of a system that ignores him and doesn't help him as he's regressing to insanity.

And I underestimated Phillips as a director. He had the stuff. Reminds of me an Adam McKay situation. This film is very well directed and shot. And Phoenix is amazing. He is downright intimidating at times. My heart was pounding in the third act. They took a terrible idea and made art out of it, and that's exactly what you hope for.

The Evil Dead (1981)

Not as good a movie as I remembered. I wanted to say that I loved it as much as when I was a kid, but sadly I think it's aged horrendously. It still has some all time great horror moments (such as Cheryl's possession scene), but ultimately it takes way too long to get going, and its creepy atmosphere is ruined by bad acting and far too many goofs and inconsistencies for them to be overlooked.

I remember seeing this movie as a kid. I watched it again a few years ago and was surprised it starred a young Robert Beltran (Chakotay from Star Trek: Voyager).

I Trapped The Devil

It's a Christmas themed horror flick with a great premise and great atmosphere, but ultimately doesn't have enough meat on its bones. It's definitely a slow burn with limited characters, but they really stretch the story. You get the feeling early on they were gonna tease the devil until the very end. And I feel like this should have been a 20-30 minute short on Netflix. I thought the performances were decent enough but Scott Poythress was clearly the standout star. Overall, it has its moments, but this could of been great. The payoff didn't justify the hour of teasing especially when you kinda know where it's going.

Joker. I thought it was fine, my only issue with it is the movie was quite depressing and I wasn't really in the mood for that. Though I prefer this over most Dceu films.

When two separate groups show up to rob the same bank at the same time....is it a strange coincidence or part of a diabolical master plan? In any case it is hilarious.
