Motherless Brooklyn.

Staring and directing Ed Norton. I never read the book. The movie drags a little and the heart of the mystery isn't overly compelling. I found myself more interested in Norton's relationship with Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Out of a max of :up:

Re-Animator (1985) :down

Some parts worked for me, but on a whole it didn’t. Guess this classic just wasn’t for me.

Watched another Stuart Gordon Lovecraft horror movie.

Dagon (2001)

I liked this one more than Re-Animator. Though I think the lead's acting sucks half the time, everyone else was better and it's more serious and a bit less laughably goofy than Re-Animator.

Neither of these movies is for the faint at heart and go to some twisted and ****ed up places (comes with the territory for good horror elements).

Recommended for/is like: Resident Evil (the video games not the movie series) fans, Dario Argento fans, Annihilation (both the book and the movie), cosmic horror fans in general

Can I see you again, and again?

PRAISE: I'm so glad I didn't read about or watch any trailers for the movie
I was ready for the normal meet cute romantic comedy but 15 minutes in i was saying what in the world is happening?!?
Sure some of the story threads have been done before but thanks to some different takes and paths from writer Andy Siara PS definitely has some originality.
Also a enthusiastic cast including :Andy Samberg,Cristin Milioti,Peter Gallagher and J. K. Simmons
raises the film several levels.Plus its surprisingly life affirming

PROBLEMS: Every joke and sight gag doesn't work and i felt the movie was about 10 minutes to long

In the end a nice mid summer surprise

Scale of 1 to 10 an 8

THE RENTAL

#shouldhavestayedhome

PRAISE:In director Dave Franco's directorial debut he and co writer Joe Swanberg story of two couples renting out a home with an ocean view for a getaway that slowly but surely turns into a nightmare.
The story is shaped by suspicion and assumption that raises the levels of the basics of the script.
The cast is enthusiastic and watchable and includes Dan Stevens,Alison Brie, Sheila Vand,Jeremy Allen White and Toby Huss. There are some good moments of suspense.

PROBLEMS:The latter part of the film slips into basic slasher mode and cant find its way around been there done that moments.Definitely doesnt live up to the first parts of the film which had moments of creativity.

Still Franco and Swanberg show promise and it will be cool to see what they come up with next.

Hold The Dark

Jeffrey Wright and Alexander Skarsgard. I thought this was going to be a movie about a guy hunting wolves but this took a turn. At times it even felt a little bit like a horror film.

How was it?

Solid movie, but sadly lacking in the tension and emotional impact that the original had. I'd say it's a step down from the original in virtually every department that's reasonably comparable (e.g., characters, character arcs, emotional beats), but that's not a slight against it.

It was also more in the vein of The Walking Dead or George A. Romero's Dead movies, in the sense that the primary conflict arose from the humans and how we inevitably fight amongst ourselves in order to survive, as opposed to the original where the primary and immediate concern was the zombies themselves, and the human conflict was very much secondary.

It was still very entertaining though. I've also heard a lot of people criticise it for a lack of horror in comparison with the first film (and it's true to say that this installment is a lot more geared towards the action), but I honestly never found Train to Busan to be all that scary anyways. So that aspect didn't bother me all that much.
