Shadow of a Doubt (1943) :up::up:
Great suspense movie from Hitchcock where a young woman's life is turned upside down by a visiting uncle.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) :up:
New cast was good but the story going to into increasing familiar territory (including the after the credits scenes) keeps it from greatness.

Polaroid (2019) :up:
Final Destination type of horror movie that didn't get good reviews from much of anybody but I'll stick up for it and say that I liked it and found it freaky.

Prey (2022) :up:
Not really into these Predators movies but this was good excitement from the director of 10 Cloverfield Lane and is marred by some questionable CG and animation.

The Gray Man (2022) :up::down
This is like the bare minimum bar for an action thriller.

Rope (1948) :up::down
A decent suspense and thriller from Hitchcock based on a single location stage play.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) :up::down
I did not like this as much as its two Spider-Man predecessors (which both got :up:) but it's decent.

The House on Sorority Row (1982) :down
Good slasher? Entertaining slasher? Couldn't give it a pass.

Lord of Illusions (1995) :down
A weird movie but was it good? Not really.

Luck (2022) :down
Decent message buried behind weak characters and a slog of a repetitive, mechanical plot.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021) :down
Weak script with too many (cardboard cutout) characters but the monster element was decent for what it's worth.

Destroyer (2018) :down:down
Ridiculous cop movie turned into a slog with overconvoluted and constant flashbacks.

The Innkeepers (2011) :down:down
Horror movie? Well that was lame.

Sacrifice (2021) :down:down
An H.P. Lovecraft type of movie that was quite bad. Was it as bad as that recent one on Amazon? No but that's not saying much.

I watched these two films back to back films that couldn’t be more opposite from each other but have the same winning ingredient that has these movies leaving a good taste in your mouth - Michael Keaton before he known for dressing up as a six foot rat in those two Tim Burton movies you may have heard of.

Body Armour (2007)

Til Schweiger plays John Ridley, former bodyguard to a US presidential candidate, who retires after royally f***ing up and getting his client killed. Three years later he's persuaded to come out of retirement for 'one last job', only to find his new client is Lee Maxwell (Chazz Palminteri) - the hitman who killed the presidential candidate. Ridley's job is to keep Maxwell alive long enough for him to inform against the Russian (I think) mob, all the while controlling his desire to kill him himself.

This film is so bad it crosses that fine line into 'entertaining'. First, as far as bodyguarding goes this really is amateur hour:

Ridley (to a colleague on the candidate's security detail); 'Where's your body armour?'
Colleague; 'Ah, I didn't bother, it's too hot'.

Wow, wonder what's going to happen to that guy...

And,

Ridley (when said colleague is injured, leaving Ridley as the only agent with the candidate); ' I can't help him. It may be a ploy to draw us out.'
Presidential candidate; 'If you don't help him, he may die. Can you live with that?'
Ridley; 'Okay, you wait here.'

:doh:

Those aren't spoilers; they both occur in the first five minutes!

It doesn't get better. A squad of bad guys in balaclavas and carrying assault rifles, and bodyguards brandishing twin pistols - in full view of everyone in a crowded nightclub - don't cause any panic until they actually start shooting?

The plot is about as original as a Steven Seagal movie, but with even more laughable decision-making and cliched dialogue. Actually, I could totally see this with JCVD as Ridley, and the bloated Buddha himself as Maxwell. Not that that's ever going to happen.

As an action flick, 3/10; as a laugh, 7/10! Averages out at...

5/10

Glorious

I had a strong suspicion about what the twist was of why Wes was "chosen" about halfway in. The movie was actually good at subverting expectations and playing with the tropes... which is ironically why I figured it out. Still a good movie and I wasn't sure until the very end exactly which side the coin was going to land on.
