Annabelle Comes Home

I thought it was pretty well done. Just like the last one, this goes back to what works. It's essentially taking some classic slasher tropes from the 70s and early 80s and putting it into a haunted house with kids and teenagers. Gary Dauberman did a fine job directing it and the 70s aesthetic is definitely noticeable. The cast is what really works here. While Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are only in the movie for a short amount of time, they give a lot of time on building a story that works with Madison Iseman, Katie Sarife, and McKenna Grace. Once the scares go in full effect that's where they really do some interesting things and introduce some new ghosts and legends. The Ferryman is the MVP of the movie. His scene steals the show and I wouldn't be surprised if they're making his movie next. Overall, I enjoyed it a lot.

Miss Bala

Enjoyable but super flawed and cliched. It's like the equivalent of going to a fast food restaurant. Gina Rodriguez does a lot of the heavy lifting in this movie and she makes it watchable despite all the cheesy and melodramatic moments. The movie had several chances to make it more than your average drug/gangwarfare movie, but they chose the safe non-threatening route almost every time. It's almost like it was made for cable tv on a lazy weekend afternoon. Overall, it's pretty mediocre.

The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot

I loved it. It's a straight 70s style exploitation film that is 100% earnest and well intention while also being campy. Sam Elliott gave it his all in what quite possibly his best film in years. His gravitas is what made this work. While the title spoils what happens, it's not the main focus of the movie and It's not meant for people expecting a full on b movie from the scifi channel. It's in fact a well done character study of a man and his myth making at the end of his life. It's Robert D. Krzykowski's first film and I can't wait to see what he does next.

12 Angry Men is a masterpiece. Multiple viewings are required to fully understand the themes and significance of the film. I've done two viewings already and I can say for certain that it is 10/10 for me. Ella Enchanted is a childhood favorite of mine. Such a charming story and Anne Hathaway is super likeable.

I thought I understood the themes of 12 Angry Men on first view, but it deserves a revisit sooner than I would normally like to.

Ella Enchanted was my introduction to Anne Hathaway, I loved it back then, and haven't seen it in years.

I didn't like it. All characters except for the lead antagonist, were underdeveloped especially Maria.

Us - 8/10

The first 30-40 minutes were quite boring honestly. Things picked up eventually and the tension was pretty effective throughout the rest of the movie. If it wasn’t for the third act and the revelation at the end, this would’ve been average at best. Thankfully those last 30 minutes really elevated it and offered up a great commentary on the subject of nature and nurture. So in end Us isn’t nearly as good as Get Out but solid nonetheless.
