Only the Brave

Based on true events of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. Good acting propels this melodrama.

The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh

Edit: Just watched a short horror/mystery by the same director, Rodrigo Gudino, The Facts in the Case of Mr Hollow (2008). Kinda plays with the idea of how Deckard examines the photograph in Blade Runner - but takes it further. Remarkable little film. I post the link to the full 6 minute movie here

The King of Staten Island

More like Court Jester

PRAISE: If you are not a fan of Pete Davidson this movie is not for you.
I'm definitely not an ultra fan but I have enjoyed his stand up and rants on Saturday Night Live
This is Davidson full throttle, his brand of humor, personality and mannerisms
His character is semi ambitious slacker, still coping with the loss of his firefighter father, his mom dating a firefighter and an on an off relationship with Kelsey (Bel Powley)(Very good)
The cast including:Marisa Tomei,Bill Burr,Bel Powley,Maude Apatow,Steve Buscemi turn in good performances
I loved the honesty of the character, the humor was laugh out loud 80% of the time
Some of the dramatic moments really ring true and if you have ever lived in the Tri State area like me you will definitely get a few more laughs out of the film.

PROBLEMS: 20 minutes definitely could have been shaved off the film
Some of the jokes fall flat.
There is something so incredibly gripping that happens at the beginning of the film and is never talked about or addressed again, i said wait ! What?
I guess a character slightly talking about it in a sentence was suppose to wash it away.....no didn't satisfy me ! !

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

“I didn’t choose, I was choosen.”

This excellent line from this excellent film was chilling to me because it kind of encapsulates one of the great things about this movie: It’s complexity. In ot just it’s plot but it’s characters. It’s thrilling, dark, and thoughtful at the same time. From the masterful direction of David Fincher, great acting from Brad Pitt & Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Spacey(I don’t condone his alleged actions, I’m just praising his performance) and the smart script by Andrew Kevin Walker; this movie is simply mesmerizing. 8.5/10. The more I think about it, the more I love it. It’s a great film, and if anyone hasn’t seen it then please check this gem out. It’s one of the great crime films of it’s time.
