Sequels What would be the lesson of SM4?

^ Okay, I understand what you're saying. And I regret using the word "lesson" to try to get my point across. Because in real life, we all learn the same lessons in different ways over and over again. Anyway, what conflict would you like to see him struggle with? We've already had

Power Vs. Responsiblity
Personal Dreams Vs. Doing What's Right
Revenge Vs. Forgiveness

The Lizard brings a lot of things to the table. He's a mentor to Peter, some would go as far as saying a Father-figure at times, he has a family, he's a respected scientist, etc. Assuming he's the main villian in SM4, what new conflict could he bring to the screen?

I think it'll be similar to the doc ock situation but on a more deadlier scale. As has been said before, taking down the lizard won't be easy and he's in no position to try and talk to or reason with, on the account of him being, a raging beast. Spidey will have to think long and hard and at the same time protect conners as well as his family too.

That's what's going to be really cool about SM4 if the Lizard is the main villian. In the movies, Spidey has never faced a beast in blind, uncontrollable frenzy. With that in mind, it's very possible that the Lizard could come closer to killing Spider-Man than any of the villians in the previous films have.

I know this is a little grown for Peter, but...

-I think Peter and MJ should start a family
-Spiderman will begin to leave the pregnat MJ alone most of the time, to fight crime to escape, it won't be intentional, but like a relief for him
-The Lizard will become villainous, (Jeckle & Hyde effect) when he realizes that to stop the lizard he'd have to stop taking the serum, but he won't becasue he'd loose his arm
-In the final battle between the Lizard & Spidey, it is the thought that he could hurt his family that will bring him to destroy the ramainder of the serums and in effect his arm will have to be amputated because w/o the serum it'll decay
-knowing how big of a sacrifice this is to Dr. Conners Peter will learn that his family comes first and must be put before him

I would say Sacrifice should be one of the themes for new movie.

I have a feeling this could be a Aunt May quote, but I do think this is a good lesson:
"Sometimes in life, we must do the right thing, even if it goes against our morals and beliefs"
It could definately be played into the story if Lizards the villian, since Spidey would have to choose if he wants to let Lizard go or not. If they go the Symbiote route and add Venom and Carnage, Venom would have to do the right thing and help Spidey beat the greater villian in Carnage. By the way, the thought of Venom and Spidey vs Lizard and Carnage just makes me feel all warm inside =)

I have no problem with focus on the character development. I just don't necessarily think the only way character development can come about is through specific "lessons" that Spider-Man learns.

If you want internal conflict, the one you'd get with the Lizard is pretty easy (albeit difficult to articulate, exactly):

The Lizard is on the loose, killing relatively frequently. With Spider-Man knowing who he is, he doesn't want to kill him, and wants to find a cure. But the longer he waits, the more people die, calling into question whether it would be more moral to kill the Lizard in order to save others? Sort of "needs of the many vs. the needs of the few" type thing.

That also kind of ties into a "doing what is right vs. doing what is popular" sort of thing. The public will expect a fast solution from Spidey, but he isn't willing to kill Dr. Connors, and he is faced with trying to make the right decisions against mounting public pressure. This would also create a nice contrast with Kraven (see my idea for the Kraven storyline in the Kraven thread), who has more or less convinced the world that Spider-Man does not have the public interest at heart, and is pursuing the more popular idea of hunting the Lizard down and killing him.

That was really poorly articulated, but I think you get the gist of it.

this is actually the best idea for using lizard and kraven in SM4 that i have heard yet, it could work very well in my opinion:woot:

Hey thats not a bad theme... but "doing what is right vs doing what is popular" won't really perpetuate the character development... I just came up with a good one...

SM1: Power Vs. Responsiblity
SM2: Personal Dreams Vs. Giving up what we want the most
SM3: Revenge Vs. Forgiveness
SM4: Temptation and Over persuing goals can lead to your demise

Let it be like "Temptations and lust for more and more leads to your undoing".... Conners wants the arm he lost fair and square, and tries to cheat his way out and regrow it using unethical methods... becoming Lizard and creating havoc... Peter is lonely after MJ goes Broadway... and wants to f**k Gwen in his spare time... but MJ soon finds out and Gwen pays the ultimate price for hitting on Peter in the first place... Kraven wants to call this the last of all hunts and thrust himself into that legendary hunter status... but instead he gets humiliated by killing (or almost killing) an innocent man... or maybe Cpt Stacy by accident... you get what I am saying? Maybe MJ even gets full of herself and gets canned from the stage again... but that would be redundant... throw in Bruce Cambell/Quentin Beck... a greedy guy that wants a leg up in the special effects department but gets fired instead... okay I am over doing it... but it still makes a great setup I think... damn SM4/5 could be outlined so nicely... if they don't go Lizard/Kraven I will seriously cry.

That's kind of a nonsensical quote. Our morals and beliefs is what determines what's we believe to be right. So basically, she's saying a person must do what's right, even if they don't think it's right. The quote could be reworked a little bit so that it does make sense.

I was trying to work around the theme of how success doesn't necessarily equate to happiness for my SM4 plot. Dr. Connors would've successfully grown back his arm, but obviously he would become the lizard. Peter would have a better job and the love of the city, but then that results in MJ leaving him for a while. I dunno, I guess I can do a little better but I think its a good theme for the movie as of right now.
