Ok so not sure how many Australian members there are on these boards, not even sure if this problems has spread out of Melbourne, or even out of Australia. But for the past few weeks or so, no matter where I go, the Playstation 3 has been sold out.

Don't get me wrong here, I understand the console is selling (not as well as they would hope), but everytime I've spoken with games stores, they people "in the know" are telling me there is another four weeks wait.

It seems Sony has nothing to supply these store, so far my count is at 17 stores. So can anyone tell me if this problem is outside of Australia, and are the rumors that i'm hearing true. Is this Sony clearing out "old" stock to release the slim in it's place?

Any help please would be great.

Its been HEAVILY rumored over the past several weeks that Sony will be announcing a price cut and new Slim model next week. Retailers have been unofficially dropping the price of the system with discounts and its been bundled with free games and movies in order to push out the existing inventory in order to make new for the new supply which they can't sell until Sony makes an official announcement. This is why you are finding the systems scarce in your country.

I've been following those rumors also, but didn't realise the price cuts and lack of PS3 systems were because the slim was coming out so soon. I actually thought the slim would be out closer to christmas, but I guess that explains everything.

Thanks.

Along with the PS3 slim rumors, I've also been hearing about possible hardware changes to this slim console. By hardware changes I mean sony removing hardware to cut the price....any truth to this?
