I've never read a Batman comic before, where should I start?

If you want something recent, get the Batman & Robin collections written by Grant Morrison, it's not Bruce Wayne but it's still awesome

I don't think "Year One" is that good as an introduction TBH. It works more if you know more about the character.

"Strange Apparitions" or "The Untold Legend of the Batman" (although not very continuity by now) are pretty good for new readers.

Start from the beginning. I recommend DC's Batman Chronicles: Volume 1. The first 10 or so Golden Age Batman stories, in color. Get it used off Amazon for less than $10.
