When I was a kid I was super weird and I was a massive whale stan. So to bully me some kids told me dolphins are better and I got so annoyed I polled everyone in the school to find out which is better.

Anyway, the time has come for your turn! So which is better? Whales or dolphins? Choose wisely as it will define how your life turns out.

I can understand the awe of whales cause they're such large yet graceful creatures but I've stood right next to a dolphin on shore waters and fed them and find them more delightful in their personality and expression.

Arguably, all dolphins are whales - though, not all whales are dolphins. Cetaceans are divided into two main sub-orders: baleen and toothed. Toothed cetaceans include dolphins, porpoises, killer whales and sperm whales. Baleens are virtually everything else (e.g., blue whales, humpback whales, etc.).

So the question should be: Which is better? Whales with teeth or whales without teeth?

Orcas are indeed dolphins, the largest of them.

To me whales are more impressive, in large part because of how much rarer it is to actually see them. Dolphins I can see basically every day. They are all over the place. Humpback whales are my favorite because they are the most active on the surface. They do tricks.
