Fox and the Hound basically has the message that if you are born from different backgrounds, society will force you apart and into conflict no matter how much you might personally like one another. If you're born a fox, you are condemmed to be a fox for the rest of your life, no matter how much you would like to enter the world of the hounds. No matter what you do or how you act. That's pretty damn depressing.
