I was just watching The Shadow (1994) the other day with Alec Baldwin and watching it for the millionth time I just figured out that this movie really is an underrated superhero movie classic. In the sense that back in the day it didn't make as much money at the box office because of its huge budget but at the same time the tone of the movie the overall darkness behind Lamont Cranston/Ying-Ko/The Shadow I have always wondered why this movie has never been rebooted

Could you imagine if they actually made a successful reboot? But instead of basing it in the 1930s/40s they could actually set The Shadow in modern day a modern-day take on Lamont's character but could that even work?

Wasn't Sam Raimi supposedly working on this?

For like...a decade?

So...he made Darkman instead.

But even so to see The Shadow rebooted to be exactly like the 1994 film but better or even a modern day take on the character I would support it

More like about six years ago. He's been linked with The Shadow as a producer at least for a while. But I mean, who is going to want to finance it at this point? The only movie was the 1994 bomb, and it's sort of a bygone property not unlike The Lone Ranger.

From what I've read, Raimi was going to produce it and Shadow is one of his favorite characters and he would like to do it, but he's not sure he ever will.

But if they ever do get it off the ground and that is assuming ever ever but if they do then who would be your pick as Lamont Cranston/Ying-Ko/The Shadow?

The Shadow has to of course be someone that actually looks like Lamont Cranston comics wise but also has the dark, terrifying voice but can also brood on command

There can be a little freedom with Cranston's look. The avg. person & maybe even comic fan might not get to angry since the Shadow is not in the foreground of the top comic characters now. Not sure the average movie goer would know what he is suppose to look like. Die hard Shadow fans will know but i think they are in the minority.

glad this film is still remembered.

it's underrated and fun.
watching it made me think baldwin would've made a good 1930s-40s bruce wayne/batman back in the day.

i should re-watch my blu ray for this again.

^ I can imagine it can be rebooted into a pretty good tv show if you get a talented enough writer. keep the retro 1930s setting because that's the era the shadow is greatly tied to.
it can be something like netflix daredevil + boardwalk empire. but add a sense of pulpy fun and adventure to it.

the Shadow as a Netflix or Amazon series would be an interesting choice.
Budget doesnt have to be sky high and if they throw a lot of money into it they can do 8 to 12 episodes and it would work. interesting place for it to land.

yup the shadow doesn't need to be super high budget.
just be creative and have good stories.

keep the retro 1930s setting, the shadow's more ruthless nature and willingless to kill criminals -- all of which will make it unique and different enough from the daredevil show and batman's.

the world needs a revival of serial style adventures!

Keeping it in the 30's IMO is a must...adds to the noir style & having it revive serial adventures is an untapped goldmine for Netflix or Amazon

That's a great idea, actually. Same goes for an HBO/Showtime series.

Whether it be a movie or series, SOMETIME needs to be done with The Shadow. So much untapped potential with this property, which offers something truly unique aside from being a superhero tale. Everything about him is different than what we're seeing now with the current crop of superheroes who are populating every medium, including his origin, personality, power set, methods (with his network of "agents"), location/setting, supporting characters/villains, and even the way he speaks and carries himself.

Plus, a Shadow movie or series would (or should) be visually stunning.

yea, the coolest thing i think about the shadow is the network of agents working for him. he almost operates like some kind of supervillian, but he's fighting for the good guys.

btw Shape, if your avatar from the '94 shadow movie?

The Shadow for Netflix I can agree with that but then who would be the perfect actor to play him on Netflix though?

alec baldwin...

cover up his face. then when the scarf comes off...have daniel baldwin play him.

kidding aside...i think an actor like james purefoy would be good. he can play someone heroic but with a darkness to him.

Alec could be in it...but a bit too long in the tooth to be Shadow

anyone just see the new Dr. Strange trailer?
and did anyone think parts of it reminded them of The Shadow 1994?
I know it did for me...

like The Shadow + Inception + Batman Begins.
