Which is your candidate for the upcoming movie "Cyborg"?

I think it'd be cool to see a Cyborg movie with an indie-drama flavor. Vic back in the real world.

Damien Chazelle (Whiplash)
James Ponsoldt (Smashed)
Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station)

but thats probably just me.

Neil Blomkamp seems tailor made for this. Joseph Kosinski would be great. I want something that's a more classical Sci-Fi approach. Taking cues from Blade Runner, 2001 and mixing it with the world Man of Steel created.

Mentioned Luc Besson for Captain Marvel but thought he would be nice fit for Cyborg too.

Maybe Gary Fleder.

J.C. Chandor is a talent on the rise and this would be a manageable project. He wrote and directed Margin Call, All is Lost and A Most Violent Year.

Interesting choice.

Am I just being cynical when I assume that all of social media will be lining up around the block to chew WB out if they don't lock down a black director for this?

My shortlist:

Alex Garland- Just made Ex Machina which was quite an experience. Add to that several screenplay credits including Dredd and 28 Days Later, I like the sound of him dealing with Cyborg. Definitely my first choice.

Dan Gilroy- Another writer-director fresh off directing the surreal Nightcrawler. He has previous experience with high budget action movies with Bourne Legacy and Real Steel, albeit as a screen writer. But if Nightcrawler proves anything, it's that this guy is no mean Director.

Doug Liman- Though he has been around for a while, he well and truly "arrived" with the unexpected hit Edge of Tomorrow. And Cyborg could be where he goes really big.

Antoine Fuqua- Hollywood nowadays seems big on empowerment with Female directors for WW/ Captain Marvel and African-American directors for Black Panther. Antoine Fuqua has risen to prominence on the back of Training Day (Ayer wrote that and he's already 'in') and more recently Olympus Has Fallen and The Equalizer. I get a feeling his style could well complement what Snyder is trying to create.

I watched Creed (amazing BTW). Coogler would be great, he'd nail the motions and tell a great story. I'd put him top of my list, followed by Alex Garland.

Alex Garland would be ideal and fantastic. Not sure he'd be up for it though.

Hard to argue Alex Garland would be good despite being somewhat uninspired.

A few other names to throw out there

Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson (Spring)
Ernest R Dickinson (Tales of the Crypt: Demon Knight and episodes of The Wire and Walking Dead)
Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code)
Joe Cornish (Attack the Block)

Ryan Coogler would be an awesome choice and very feasible as Creed was a film made by new line a warner bros. subsidiary so he already has a working relationship with them.

He's likely going to be busy with Black Panther, or a Creed sequel.

I am stealing this from Da-Scribe but he mentioned Jordan Peele and I think that's a good match. My choices would also include Brad Bird. Bird could deliver a super hero techno thriller for sure.
