Why can't I search the Hype?

yeah it happened to me too - i don't know who deals with tech issues on the hype though

You have to use more than four characters in your search or you will get that blank page. This is Malice's fault, mostly. But we love him anyway, despite all his flaws.

It was actually possible to search the Hype at one point, but i belive the search engine is broken..but no one fixes it.

The Hype search engine frequently upsets me.

The search database went corrupt at one point and made search completely unusable. Malice repaired the database awhile back, but in order to do so he had to trash a lot of search results from the past, so you only get results that go back to a certain point. Use more than 4 characters in your searches, and you'll be fine.

That's not true.

The four character thing has always been, and you get an error message if you don't do it.

It's not, however, that Malice hasn't attempted to solve it. He just hasn't been able to reproduce the results others of us get when he does the same searches. Without that, he has no way to trace the problem.

For example, if I use the following search criteria on the advanced form:

Keyword: Daisy
Show posts from: 2 Weeks ago and Newer
Show results as: Posts

I get a blank page.

But when Malice tries the same search, he gets results. And it makes no difference that I've cleared my cache and cookies and everything. I still get the same result.

Why are you trying to search your own name, Ms. Vain? :cmad:

Only the one's not worth knowing. :)

I have heard this issue has occurred for awhile and the strange thing, I have yet to actually duplicate the problem.

Its being worked on so please give me time.
I may not post much, but I do pay attention

I can't search my name. It's too short. Few people actually use my full name. So from now on, when you are *****ing about me behind my back, use the whole name you cowardly bastards!!!

ALAS, let me clarify this once and for all.
BY DESIGN
The search index only indexes words from 4 to 20 characters long
Simple as that. I set it that way ON PURPOSE.

This means, no searching for
BOB
or no searching for
123456789012345678901

That help?

So, I was right, then. You have to use more than four characters in your search. :) And for the record, I do understand why you would set such a limitation on a board of this size.

You should have though of that when you created your name, Ms. Mosi!

No the world must cater to me, not the other way around :doom:

Come now, Daisy. Is it that bad? You are free now! You should be doing a mambo, not mourning yourself!

I use more than 4 characters and less than 20 in most of my searches and they all come up with the same blank page, even after trying more than once.

There's a difference, Cyke. You asked to be let go. I was unceremoniously dumped with no consultation at all, even though I've been told I was doing a good job.

The only reason I'm given is that they thought I might want to be because I'd asked to be months ago. And I'm told that I was supposed to asked if I still felt that way before I was removed, and that if I didn't, I wouldn't have been removed.

Yet, when I say I don't still feel that way, so why not just re-instate me... since I wasn't going to be removed if I didn't want to be... nothing happens.

This is what bothers me... the seeming duplicity. The idea that it was sort of an accident... just an idea that was kicking around that wasn't supposed to be acted on if I didn't like it, yet when I suggest a good faith remedy... simply reinstate me... it's not done.

That is where Caesar comes in.
