With the recent flood of remake ideas in the works, why do you think we/hollywood/whomever really want remakes?

What they should do is try to make awesome sequels to crap movies.

I'd like a remake of The Lost World. The only way to justify one is if the original had crappy writing, or the effects were shoddy-keep the good script, update the effects.

Hollywood wants remakes because they have run out of ideas and can basically just steal them from people who had actual talent.

Now there isn't too much wrong with the concept of remakes. There have been some great remakes in the past (such as the 1959 Ben-Hur remake or even last year's Casino Royale), but the vast majority of the time the remake ends up being a pale imitation of the original so I feel the above comment is valid in most cases.

I think they remake that movie about every five years and the 1925 version is still the best of the bunch.

Remakes usually suck, I wish film studios stop doing them... :o

better script/writing should not be an option. that is in the eye of the beholder. there are horrible writers now just like there were then, for some reason no one learns.

and they should only be made if they director/writer has a real passion for it.

I only think remakes of terrible films should be made. It seems like Hollywood is only going for the good ones to remake, most likely because they don't want to chance a ****ty movie failing for the second time if it got remade.

Who's "we"

Praise be to the Lord above if Hollywood lays off the freakin remakes!

Because they are considered safe bets by the studios. If you remake classic action films, action film buffs are already in the seats. Its easier, despite fanboy clashing, to remake films.

Remakes should only be made for films that will benefit from it or for a novel that can possibly adapted better (or any source like that). It can also work with directors that have an extreme vision of something and just use the basic ideas- Planet of the Ape, The Fly, and House of Wax fall into these categories. (although I wouldn't say HOW is as good as the first two noted, just that it only uses the basic concept and changes everything else).

i selected "other" because i agree with all of them.

however, most remakes now-a-days are just unnecessary...

I was talking about Jurassic Park. :o

We dont hollywood have run out of ideas so they are either bringing popular **** back for a sequal or remake or taking it from Asia!

Sucks balls really we are in a creative slump

I would like to see a remake of a film before the film has even come out, now that would be funny, IORN MAN! the remake!

"Wait what? did ironman come out already?"

They should never try and remake GOOD movies, i.e. Psycho, King Kong, Manchurian Candidate, etc. because no matter how good the movie is, it is only good because the original was such an inspiration (not that the Pyscho, Manchurian, or King Kong remakes were any good, because they sucked). However, that isn't to say some old material couldn't use some modern day treatment. I had a perfect example but I can't think of it. Ocean's 11 is a good example of one that's already been made.

I think they should remake *****ty movies to make them better. Just think about it...."Ghost Dad" starring Denzel Washington.

Because You Touch Yourself At Night Should Be An Option
Oh and I choose the FX one

We DON'T need remakes....in fact their starting to really piss me off. How about some original idea's!

As long as the audience keeps watching remakes, Hollywood will keep on making them. The audience has no one to blame but themselves when it comes to remakes.

Also, the audience needs to wake up and realize that remakes are not a current trend. Remakes are as old as cinema itself.

Movies should only remade if there's an interesting spin or fresh idea(s) added to it.

Psycho '98 is an example of how NOT to do a remake, which is to completely remake it shot-by-shot and add nothing to the original.

Well, if there weren't any remakes then Advanced Dark's post count would be cut in half :woot:
