With all of these unneeded franchise reboots & remakes (Ghostbusters, Pirates of the Caribeean, Wonka, Breaking Bad, Shrek) what is a film franchise that you think actually deserves a reboot or remake, and why? Who would you cast in it? Who should direct?

Well, not a series, but I'd love to see someone try their hand at another take on The Last Starfighter. The concept (a video game secretly being used as a recruitment test for an alien space force in an intergalactic war) is such a pulpy fun concept to me that would still totally be relevant today, especially with video games as popular as ever and only exponentially more sophisticated than they were back then. My eternal love for Galaxy Quest combined with my recent experience seeing how well the Jumanji reboot worked out made it hard for me to not to imagine this working in a similar (albeit slightly less comedic) vein as a fun space adventure that doesn't take itself too seriously. I'm just a sucker for the "regular joe(s) get sucked into the epic adventure movie of their dreams" trope, and I feel like we don't get many of them anymore. Not sure who I'd want to see star in it (maybe Jack Reynor or Tom Holland?), but I'm dying for Brad Bird to direct something like this.

The Last Starfighter could be pretty fun, sure. So long as they keep it pretty goofy, you know they'd go all grimdarkz lame with it.

Dune's the big one or me, glad that's happening. Maybe another take on The Fly might be cool.

Plenty of old pulpy 30s/40s stuff to look at too.

Speaking of the old pulpy stuff (though this was the '50's), I'm not saying I'm dying to see it, but I'm SHOCKED no one in our modern feminist climate has attempted a satirical remake of Attack of the 50 ft Woman. Shocked, I tell you!

Transformers springs to mind.

Flash Gordon has always been high on that list for me. Honestly I'd like to see a proper remake of The Wizard of Oz. I think that can be done even better today.

Kind of an obvious choice but Ninja Turtles. The fact that after so many decades we still don't have a good NT movie is a travesty. And no, the 1990 one wasn't good.

If the fully animated from last decade isn't a good movie, then there legitimately is no way to make TMNT a good cinematic series.

Superman

The first two Chris Reeve movies were good. And I liked Man of Steel too. But we still haven't had a really good modern Superman movie for the current generation that properly carries on from Reeve's legacy, like Nolan did for Batman. The worst part is that I doubt we'll get it anytime soon (if ever) from WB.

Transformers/Bayformers

Yeah I know this one's recent, but Bayformers crapped all over the Transformers characters. We deserve a proper live-action series that does actual justice to them! The fully CG-animated Transformers Prime series from 2010 is actually really good, and a good base model to work from.

As already mentioned above, the 2007 animated movie is pretty good. But that's the only recent TMNT movie that's been any good, so yeah, it does deserve a proper live-action series to do it justice!

I know that the people involved are calling Bumblebee a prequel but come on, it's so obviously a reboot.

Admittedly I've never watched TMNT... heard mixed things about it. Maybe I should give it a chance... I still want a good live-action movie, though.

Chris Evans as Casey, Sarah Michelle Gellar as April, the late great Mako as Splinter, Zhang Ziyi as Karai
get on it
