This is not just GL. I have read about footage from a bunch of different movies. And their is a blackout (except for those who bootleg) on this footage. Why do they do this? At the end of Comic Con. They should release the footage for people who cannot attend. :whatever:

I agree. It'd be tremendously beneficial for this film to put the footage online long in advance of the release and get people who aren't familiar with the character talking about it.

Comic Con is an event where 100,000 people go each year because they somehow save up or something to travel far and wide to get to San Diego. Then in order to get into Hall H, You have to be there quite early due to the fact of it only holding 6500 people. So I think.. Personally, I think the people who go there should be the only ones to watch the footage because of how exclusive it is. It's a payback for those fans who go there.

It's a nice perk to be exclusive to a handful of fans but it's superior marketing strategy to leak the teasers.

The footage they released from the first Iron Man was a smash success. It probably helped build the hype for the big opening weekend.

Yeah, it is basically a reward for being at the exclusive event.

We will get our footage in time. It is all about patience. It is actually a great idea because I now want to go to see Spider-Man, Batman 3, and Avengers next year. I'll be 17 going into 18. The exclusivity makes more new people want to come out for the following year's event.

I don't think comic con needs more people crowding the place for exclusives.

I really think the studios should allow the bootleg videos to stay up. The grainy, pixelated cell phone videos always make me smile; more so when compared to the same video when it's released officially. Like when the first Iron Man footage got out, I loved hearing people cheer and scream. Heck I've watched the bootleg Walking Dead & Smallville footage atleast a dozen times each and when the real deals hit the net I'll probably watch it once or twice more, for some reason it just builds excitement better.

For crying out loud, SOMEBODY in Hall H had to have had a cell phone whipped out, somewhere buried deep in the internets is a half second shot of Tomar-Re that I need to see.

it would be nice if studios did that for tv/film footage screened at the con. hey have thier reasons. now some times things get put online offlicically or leaked by fans. now it sucks gl footage didnt leak at all.

Do we have to go through this EVERY time there's a convention?

Normally I'd be inclined to agree, but considering that those who attend get first dibs at tickets for the next year, and they sell out incredibly fast, there is little to no chance for a fresh group to partake in the festivities, thus limiting others who have saved up or can go but get let down time and time again. In that sense, it would be ideal for footage to be shared with the public afterwards, but I understand why it isn't.

It's way too early from WB to release any GL footage whatsoever. Filming isn't even done yet! They usually put something together for Comic Con because it's a different crowd down there, those guys are pationate about the movie and will go see it no matter what so they treat them to a little something something... Even if it's rough footage and the FX aren't finalized, it doesn't matter to them but to release the Comic Con trailer onto the internet would mean the beginning of the promo marketing campaign because everybody would be able to watch these thing, people who aren't familiar with the comics and have no idea what the film is about and you don't want to screw it up for those people.

Comic Con is an event where people who aren't poor, get to mingle with the people I can only dream about meeting, see things long before they are released to the lowly peasants, and party it up comic book style.

Conventions are expensive, especially if you are in England and would have to fly out. Don't you think I would save up and go to one if it were even remotely possible for me to do so?

I'm not just being lazy, and expecting the footage to come to me because I can'y be bothered to go. I CAN'T go to comic con, and I don't see why things like trailers can't be shared with people like me. They still get to meet the actors/directors. They still get to be someone who asks a question, get their picture taken, get an autograph etc etc... I can't do any of that. But can't I at least watch the bloody footage a couple of days later?

Man if anybody had camera phone footage they should just send it to Wikileaks.org. It seems like they have been able to get their hands on more sensitive stuff than that with out any repercussions.

:lmao:

holding back footage on bigger name characters like batman and superman works well as a teaser. but GL isnt a character that the general audience knows much about. letting the general audience get familiar with him sooner than later would be most wise, i think.

The general audience don't pay attention to Comic-Con. Nor do they retain any sort of hype for a movie that's a year away. C'mon.

Star Wars previewed Episode IV in theaters about 6 months before it's release and it got laughed off the screen. George Lucas then pushed his film by selling buttons and poster at fan conventions, and then he licensed novels and comic books that were published prior to the release of the film. He even got a huge spread in Time magazine the week prior to the film's opening. His formula made that film the top grossing film that year and it stands to reason that if you follow the same formula you will get a similar result. It was really the promotions in conventions and merchandising that made it a success. This same type of campaign worked for Batman in 1989 and can also work for Green Lantern. The franchise already has "Secret Origins" on sale in hardcover, there are teaser posters floating around and interviews with the cast on the Internet. All we need is the buzz to spread and some great reviews sometime next year and this will be a hit.

I really think the selling point of Green Lantern are the visuals (costume, aliens, CGI effects) and if nothing is ready yet, then why would the public care?

Oh yes they do,but with other movies, but I wouldn't completely dismiss what you're saying either. It's a two way street.

This really confuses me. It's good marketing to reveal the footage. There are plenty of other exclusive things about the con other than the footage. Sure seeing the footage from Thor & Cap online would be incredible, but it's nothing compared to what it would be like to see it at the Con and getting to see The Avengers for the first time. There are just some exclusives you can't duplicate online, but if you can, why not make it available for everyone?

Sure, you can't duplicate something being exclusive with something after a first time, but the response really matters.

The studio's have already 'got' the majority of comic con goers, it's the ones that don't care to go that you need to woo, so show the damn stuff.
Even if you don't really want to show it, surreptitiously leave the bootleg stuff on youtube for a couple hours to 'allow' some hype to build, then take it off so people who saw it feel great about it.

If rewards for attendance are such an issue, give these people a damn toy hammer or ring for each hall they attend :cwink:!

Here is why the studios don't release the footage...because the footage isn't finished. Listen to the insane comments on the Thor trailer that got released. Trailers can make or break a movie. These trailers will be released when they are finished....just like the Cap and Thor trailers will be released on the IM2 bluray

I agree. I went to comic con. The one thing I wanted to see more than anything else was the GL footage. However, I didn't know I would have to spend the night outside to get in... kinda disappointing.
