It seems every week we get a thread devoted to 'Who was better Keaton or Bale' or what was a better batman film Batman (1989) or Batman Begins.

I for one cannot decide what i prefer out of those 2 films of there actors, but why decide they both have there plus points plus there minuses. I know i prefer Micheal Gough as Alfred over Caine, but why must it be a choice?

Why cant we all just admit that both films, both actors did a great job. Why because Christopher Nolan has made a 'Perfect' Batman film do we now have to put Batman 1989?

What was wrong with keatons Batman, What was wrong with Nicholsons Joker? Nothing, nothing waswrong with either of them, nor the script, nor Burtons direction nor Furst's Gotham.

They are different visions, diffrent versions of the same character, why pick.

Lets just admit that despite each of there faults there both 2 amazing films.

Well, with differing opinions, yes, it usually does come down to a choice.

I do love both films, myself.

Sometimes I have a choice, sometimes not.

Ask me the better Alfred, I will tell you Gough. Ask me the better Gordon, I will tell you Oldman.

But ask me the better Bruce Wayne and Batman, I'll tell you I equally like Keaton and Bale both the same.

actually I liked Bale's Bruce Wayne and Keaton's Batman

When I HAVE to choose, I like the majority of Begins traits more. But generally no, the 2 interpretations don't necesarily contrdict one another. But if, in principle, oyu don't like the philosophy of how the movie is made (eg. if you ond't like gothic atmosphere) then, yes, there is comparison and eventually choice.

This is just the Connery/Moore arguement all over again. As long as people have favorites then people will make it seem as if you have to choose.

BB was far from perfect. It was a good film, no doubt, but it had its faults, like all movies.

the perfect Batman film would have.....
1)No heavy rubber suit
2)Gordon as a competant cop and not comic relief
3)DETECTIVE SKILLS

Don't want to stir the waters, but BB had 2/3 according to your definition.

BB had none of those.
1) They had a rubber suit
2) Gordon was a joke
3) What did Batman detect in BB????

Well, like I said, I don't wanna stir the waters, so I'll drop it, because if I answer, we'll definately go off topic.

Be thankful we debate this and other adaptations of Batman in terms of whose better rather than who was worse or why they got the character/story wrong when they finally brought them to the big screen. See that's the problem other superhero/comic book fans have.

"Why must it always be a choice?"

...because threads about how everyone loves both movies wouldn't be interesting. The whole point of those threads is to debate and get other people's opinions. Otherwise, those threads would die pretty quickly when the mass majority would likely just agree that both are good.

I can admit Batman 89 is a good movie.... but Batman Begins is a GREAT movie :woot:

I like both and refuse to prefer one over the other.

I like Keaton more than Bale. Therefore I watch the Burton films far more than Begins. In fact, i probably wont watch begins again for a while.

Batman'89 is a classic to me.
I like both and refuse to prefer one over the other.

If you do, that's just fine. There are several people that like both films(B'89 & BB) equally. But there's nothing wrong with choosing one either. If people prefer Batman Begins or if they prefer Batman'89, that's their choice and I can respect it. I love them both but do prefer the former.

comparing the 'Batman' films is like comparing various cuts of meat.

It all depends on what your tastes are at the time, but they're all good in their own unique way.

If I had to...

1: Batman Returns
2: BATMAN
3: Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
4: Batman Begins
5: Batman Forever
6: Batman & Robin

It's all based on one's asthetic, as well as something Michael Uslan commented on that I agree with, which is 'whatever era of Batman you grew up with.'

I was born in 1988 and exposed to Batman first and foremost through Tim Burton's films, so THAT is the Batman that speaks the most to me...but my being a fan of the character himself transcends that to the point that, while I'm fond of Burton's vision, I appreciate Schumacher and Nolan's films as well, along with Timm and Co's Animated works and Bill Dozier's TV Show...even the 40's serials.

There really isnt a choice. Everyone knows Keaton and 89 was the best. Some just decide to act like they think Bale and Begins was better to start some different converation. :o

See I can see both sides of this, But I still feel they were equal in their different interpretations, they dont play the SAME version of BATMAN.
