I was just wondering, why did Greg and Victor decide on calling the series "The Spectacular Spider-Man" rather than "The Amazing Spider-Man" especially given that the series takes a lot of influence from the Lee/Ditko era?

I'm guessing that this has been asked and answered at some point but I'm not sure how to search the forum for this question and Ask Greg's search function doesn't appear to be working.

because it was also a long going issues of comic books.

And "Amazing" was the title of the 90's series, wasn't it?

Because they know about my sPelling quirk and thought I would annoy lots of people when writing about it.

Yes but why not use the name of the original long running comic book?

The 90s show was just called Spider-Man the Animated Series.

The only conflict is with the live action TV series that was also called "The Amazing Spider-Man"; I guess that must be the answer.

Because 'The Amazing Spider-Man' is most commonly used and they wanted something different?

And "The sPider-Man" just sounded too much like the show it was set to replace on that network.

cuase it wouldn't of sounded as good in the theme song

"Amazing, Amazing, spider-man
Amazzzzzzzzzzzzing

spider-man"

lol

It was originally going to be called "Amazing" but it was changed for reasons I can't recall.

"Tentatively titled "The Amazing Spider-Man," the new series is being produced by Culver Entertainment."

Thank you Exophagy; it's interesting that the initial title was "Amazing" and from this I'm guessing it must be some legal issue that lead to the change.

I like the title... makes a change from 'Amazing' and has got a nice bit of alliteration...

This is the real reason. They were all set to call it amazing, but due to some legal issue with (I think they had some other spider-man marketing already going by that name or something). So Greg and the gang chose the next best one, and after Amazing came Spectacular. I'm just glad they didn't name it Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man.

There weren't any legal issues with the name; Amazing Spider-Man was just used too much. Heck, even Raimi wanted to name Spider-Man 2 it.

I think it's jsut a great name all around. Also, obviously, it was a series as well.

Spectacular sounds better. And if you listen to the Greg Weisman interview on the Spider-man Crawl Space Podcast, I believe they talk about this.
