Recently the USA network ran The Bourne Identity, Fast & The Furious and Bad Boys 2 in a letterbox version on regular TV, strange thing is that all three movies were filmed in the 2.35 ratio and USA cropped the image as a 1.85 ratio which might be better than full screen but it still crops the image.
And FX showed Spider-Man 2 in the same 1.85 aspect ratio even though it was filmed 2.40 as it says on the DVD and as I was comparing my DVD with FX, the image on FX showed more image top and bottom.
Now my TV is just a regular 4.3 square box and I don't know how someone with a widescreen TV can tell the difference.
