if it is made by Fox? 5 years after Fox ended the Aliens franchise with a stinky pile of poo(Alien 3) they decided to resurrect the Aliens franchise with Alien Resurrection(which unfortunately turned out to be another stinky pile of poo.). If Fox does make X-Men 4 I guess the title X-Men Resurrection seems appropriate considering their history. X-Men without Professor X and Ripley not in Aliens would never work. That is why Fox brought both characters back from the dead(In a cheap way of course).

All of this makes one wonder why in the heck did Fox chose to kill these characters in the first place.

Lord I hope not!

X4
X-Men Re-United

Resurrection would certainly be appropriate. Re-United sounds too similar to X2 though. How about:

X4: The Will to Live

or X4: Heroes Live Forever (like the Vanesso Amorossi song)

How was Professor X's return cheap? He was teaching a class about moral ethics early in the movie--then ultimately carried out his own theory with patient he used as an example in class. Raises an even more interesting moral dilemna. And if he wasn't dead...where did he go before he ended up in that body?

I wouldn't be surprised if he came back in the spinoffs--especially the Magneto one. And the Wolverine spinoff is a prequel which is supposed to involve Stryker and Weapon X, which in the first two movies showed a relationship between Xavier and Stryker. That character is so open to return even if they never do an X4.

Because Sigourney originally didn't want to come back for Alien 4?

His return took away all the drama from the scene he was killed in. I would have liked to see a scene at the end of the film that might have hinted at his return. The way bring to a prominent character in a franchise back was done well at the end of Star Trek 2. None of us who saw the film saw Spock come back at the end. We could only hope that somehow his body would be preserved by the planet changed by the Genesis project. The day after I saw that film I anticipated the return of Spock all the way up to a few months before the release of the next Star Trek film.

I agree.

Why would Sigourney want to come back to make another crappy Alien movie? She realized that Fox hurt the Aliens Franchise with Alien 3. The two things that brought Sigourney back were an increase in salary and some involvement with directing. Now there is nothing Fox can say or do that will bring her back to make another turd.

It was cheap because in retrospect he took the easy way out. He made a big mistake with Jean out of his overconfidence and arrogance and helped unleash on the world a terror unlike anything ever seen. Alot of people died because of his mistakes (except for Scott of course), Jean paid the ultimate price (again), and yet Charles managed to survive. Where did he go? directly into the new body. Or the White Hot Room. Or that tunnel with the light at the end. Take your pick.

Of all the people that deserved to live IMHO, Charles was the least deserving.

You're missing the point. Prequels don't count as the "return" of a character. That's obviously easy. You could do a dozen movies about Jean and Scott or Storm and you could do anything you want with them as long as they take place before the events of X3. But that's not really a character's return. That's like saying the Star Wars prequels were the "return" of Obi-Wan.

Bingo. His death was supposed to be the most dramatic and emotional of the scenes. That clip at the end took all the point away from it. Throughout the rest of the film the audience was wondering how the school and his X-men would survive without their father. And suddenly that's no longer a worry. Even Jean's death at the end of X2 had a beautiful, poetic sense of closure, yet there was just the tiniest slight hint that maybe just maybe there may be more. X3 missed the point completely.

IMHO it would be alot more dramatic and eye-catching for the final, final scene to show a rugged wooded area with a familiar figure lying sprawled among broken branches and bushes, cut, beat up, torn clothing. Eyes twitch but do not open. He stirs gently and whispers a single word: "Jean..."

BTW, my main reservation about using the name "Resurrection" as a possible title for X4 is that comparing it to the strategy for Alien 4, it would probably involve conveniently making clone copies of the movie's previous chars, and I'd much rather see the genuine articles instead.

I'd rather see the whole series started over in 5 to 10 years at this point. Or take the superman route(Superman Returns took place after Superman 2).

Guess you can't completely win. It'd break our hearts to have everyone recast.

You're right about the route. It's been done before. Remember how the Highlander films jumped over Highlander 2? I'd have no problems if X4 just jumped over X3 :)

At least then we'd have a proper trilogy plus a non-canonical "what-if" spinoff :)

X-men Resurrection would be a good name for the forth movie if they bring back Scott and Jean.

X4: This Thread Sucks

summer 2012 release

Fox's contract with Marvel to make X-Men films will be terminated by that time. Fox has to make another X-Men film in 4 years to keep their contract.

I didn't like any of the taglines.

X-Men Utd / The Last Stand

oh please...to say that Jean's return was more slight than Xavier is just...wrong. First, 80% of the people dont even know he's alive, simply because most people didnt watch that scene, since it was after credits. Second, hell, everyone knew Jean was coming back, there's nothing less subtle than that fire-bird in the water...

And the scene of his death imho WAS the best scene of the trilogy. If you felt it wasnt any good, its probably because you knew he would come back already. I didnt, so i got all the drama it was supposed to have...

As for the thread, Bring on X4, and call it only X-men 4 :D
