Without a shared universe connection, would Suicide Squad be as anticipated?

Would you/pop culture fans at large still be as interested?

  • People would be just as hyped for it.

  • The movie would probably lose a good bit of hype

So for curiosities sake let's say the Joker in the movie is separate from any future Joker in other movies and nothing in the movie would move beyond the Suicide Squad franchise itself, not part of any shared universe but just a movie comprising it's own continuity would you and/or pop culture fans at a large still be as interested in it?

People would still be hyped. There's an entire show centered on the origins of Batman and his villains that's never going to lead anywhere. People would watch a movie about his villains which he also cameos in.

It wouldn't be as anticipated

Also if X men apocalypse was connected to the MCU, more than 3 people would be excited about that movie too

LOL its funny that you won't head over to the Xmen thread and say that.

In this scenario Batman wouldn't appear or at the very least wouldn't be Afflecks Batman since that'd be a separate franchise

I've gone over there and said that a bunch of times

Fold the Fox Men and bring em into the MCU just like Spidey

For me, yes.

Can't speak for everyone else.

Same here.

I actually think it's sole weakness is that it is tied down to Snyder's nonsense but I'm still incredibly excited for it, given it's director, cast and premise!

It's going to be incredibly entertaining next year if (or when) Suicide Squad is much better received than BvS. I'm actually almost counting on it. :D

Would be fascinating if their unknowns made more than their flagships

BvS will make more. Even if it isn't good it'll make a lot of money based on the strength of the characters. I just meant in terms of critical, general audience and fan reception.

more than 3 people are excited for apocalypse:cmad:

i am not excited for spider-man In MCU at all.since i don't like idea of spider-man in avengers at all or rumors of stark making spidey's costume and making webshooters.

Such a frosty tale you tell hermano.

I would be anticipating SS WITHOUT Harley or Joker or Batman since I have always been a fan of the series. Thing is... The Squad has never been a household name. And no, the CW Squad didn't somehow change that. So, while I would be onboard and hyped from the moment a SS was announced, no, I have to say most wouldn't be that interested unless this was part of a wider DCEU.

Yes, I enjoy the kinds of dynamics they're throwing out in the SS trailers.

Yes. I love the property.

I'd be excited, but I'm happy there is a shared universe connection.

I'm quite certain that a shared universe increases the hype overall for all movies that belong to them. It doesn't mean that people wouldn't look forward to seeing it but the question wasn't about that, it was about if the hype would change in any way.

Hard to say. It'd probably be a different movie if it were meant to be a standalone. I suspect it wouldn't be.

They would probably push the Joker more than the trailer did if there were no shared universe thing. For audience recognition.

If it was left to be a 'stand alone' film, the GA wouldn't go near this film, they wouldn't have a clue of any reference point beside some tenious thought or visual sight of the Joker attached. To us, yes, of course we'd see it, left outside of the DCCU, the general audience wouldn't go and see it.

It's not like they have a reference point for it now.

Would it change anything for me? No. But then I'm not necessarily excited about the SS movie in the first place. At this stage I'm more curious than anything else. Now once this all gets going(if they can manage it, that is) and the intricate spider webs of continuity start forming and causing movies to effect other movies in the shared universe...then I'll be apt to get more excited but I'm still waiting for them to start making movies I can enjoy in the first place because MoS sure as hell didn't cut the mustard for me.

love mos made superman interesting
for the first time ever

I voted yes but am not quite sure I'm right about it but I think that trailer would've generated a lot of hype regardless seeing as how the Joker is an established Batman villain and we are in the post-Batman trilogy phase where something experimental probably would be tried at some point or other if expanded universe's weren't starting to catch on.

I guess I tend to see it being harder to make the film stand on it's own with all the other comic book movies out so maybe yes it would be less hyped with the present state of things as opposed to how things may have been if it came out like this 7 years ago...

I'll just stick with a tenuous yes.
