Worst Film to Kick Off a Cinematic Universe

What's Iron Man even doing in that list? That's like asking what is the worst comic book movie of all time and then listing Avengers Infinity War alongside the likes of Catwoman, Fant4stic, Elektra, Steel etc.

Iron Man could have turned out to be a mediocre movie, it had some re-shoots and they had the script writer write some dialogues and scenes right on location !

Movies go through re-shoots all the time. Gonna have to be multiple sources on this set-trouble stuff to treat it seriously, not some randoms on a podcast. Put it into context, too: the first Ant-Man was a cluster**** in the early days of shooting. They turned that around and we got a really solid flick out of it.

The first Iron Man they didn't even have a complete script, they were basically improvising & winging a big chunk of the character moments.

If the directors aren't quite up to it, Edwards on Rogue One style, or if the directors aren't team players Edgar Wright style, Feige will step in and set them straight. And it's seriously doubtful we're even dealing with either of those two scenarios here.

Doubt there's anything to worry about with the script either - even though Gunn threw out Nicole Perlman's Guardians script and started over, Marvel must have liked her stuff in general to ask her back for a second time. There's some faith there. And Downey's put her in the writing room for the third Sherlock movie.

Also, add King Arthur Universe that WB wanted to launch by making "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" as first movie in the series, because why not ?

Not saying that Iron Man is the movie which is a contender for a worst film to kick off a movie universe (IM is one of my fav. MCU films.) but I was just pointing out that things might have been a bit different given the problems it faced during shooting stages. And...

1) It was great fun, and I loved it, and I chalk everyone else's problems with it up to expectations that it be some other movie. That's right, you're all wrong!
2) Also in addition to being facetiously wrong, you are actually wrong. Robin Hood (2018) is a standalone film made by Lionsgate and should not be confused with the Sony project in development, Hood, which is intended to start a Robin Hood extended universe. As such it has no place on this poll. Neither does any other Robin Hood movie in development, whether the Margot Robbie vehicle Marian, Disney's Nottingham & Hood, or Dreamworks' Merry Men, or while we're at it, Robin Hood 2058 or Robin Hood and the Prince of Aragorn. On the topic: The Mummy is the answer. No one loved The Mummy. No one stans The Mummy, and no other franchise released a group shot of it's universe's high profile stars before it failed. It's not even close. Take of that clear winner and the runner up is a bit of a race, but I'd go with The Amazing Spider-Man. Totally forgettable, though admittedly I haven't and won't see The Conjuring.

So while technically, you are correct, this film was at one point intended to be merged with Sony's "Hood" film, which was intended to kick off the Robin Hood Cinematic Universe. Hypothetically, had Robin Hood (2018) been released by Sony, they might have moved forward with their RHCU.

The Amazing Spider-Man was not a bad movie. The second one was the death knell.

Robin Hood and The Mummy were DOA, and Venom shouldn't exist without Spider-Man.

I liked Garfield and Stone but that's about all I can say for those films. The first one just felt kinda flat and the second one was like Batman Forever. That scene with the evil doctor guy dunking Electro in the tank was straight out of a Schumacher film.

Yeah, and it died on its feet because Paul Feig's a self-gender hating hack of a writer who crowbarred gross-out humor into a series that didn't need it and painted every character with a penis in that movie in a negative light in various degrees (seriously, why would you make Chris Hemsworth look like he's too stupid to live?) and all the women in the movie look like angels, whilst saying publicly all the people who thought the movie looked like crap "sexist towards women" with no basis when the opposite was true of his damn movie? ALL of which the original 2 Ghostbusters movies and their cartoon shows NEVER pulled! And Sony wanted to make a CU out of that? What a f-ing joke.

The last Robin Hood movie left a lot to be desired, but if it was better, spinoffs could include Ivanhoe, the Templars, the Black Knight/Richard the Lion Heart.

There's the Trading Places cinematic universe. The Duke brothers appeared in Coming to America as a couple of homeless people after they had been put out of business and lost their fortune.

And how about the Fugitive cinematic universe? Tommy Lee Jones starred in US Marshalls which now chronicled his adventures instead of Harrison Ford.

Ah, good ones. If we expanded it to TV shows as well you could have NBC's Expanded Chicago Universe, the Law & Order Universe. The latter could include Homicide, The Wire and even The X-Files, since Detective Munch appeared in those shows too.
