Hollywood star Hugh Jackman is confident Wolverine, the spin off from the successful X-men series will be filmed at least partially in Australia.
Jackman who performed at the bone marrow donor institute Red Ball at Docklands last Saturday, said he had his fingers crossed that production will be based in Australia.
Jackman, who is also one of the films producers said "We are working very hard at that."
"I hope I'll be able to make an announcement about that very soon"

Then he goes on to talk about his charity work and his family.

That would be great for Hugh and his family. Fox has studios in Sydney, Australia as well

Thanks for the posting!

The article was also posted at Moviehole.net which said it would film "early next year" when of course we've heard November (which IMO is the correct date). Part of his movie "Australia" is being filmed at Fox Studios - right now they are in Kununurra in the Outback and after that in September they are going back to Fox Studios so if Hugh gets his way it sounds like he'll be at the studios for a while. If it happens, I wouldn't be surprised since he's one of the producers - he gave an interview a while ago when he formed his production company saying that he was hoping to have some films he produces done in Australia since his son is now school age and it would be harder for the family to travel around like they were doing.

Wolverine in Australia?

Hugh Jackman’s big pre-strike effort “Wolverine – the please-let-it-be-good prequel to “X-Men” – is eyeing off Australia as it’s possible filming location.

According to The Sunday Herald Sun, Jackman is taking meetings and signing cheques in an attempt to get the movie made down under. That way, I’m guessing, he can go straight from “Australia”, which he’s shooting now, into ‘Wolverine’ - and if any ADR or re-shoot commitments pop up for the former, he can just drive down the road and get it done; no passport needed.

The Gavin Hood-directed movie, which chronicles the backstory of the only man on earth hairier than Robin Williams, is set to lens early next year.

That sounds interesting. I could care less where they actually film the movie... I'm sure most will be filmed in studios anyway.
But for Hugh and his wife and kids... the best would be to keep him close to home :)

I just came across this story so now I am more convinced that Hugh is trying his hardest to get WOLVERINE filmed in Australia - his wife is filming a movie there, although in Adelaide and not Sydney.
