DotEmu and Lizardcube have released the launch trialer for Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap.


Here’s an overview of the game, via DotEmu:

Boasting beautiful, hand-drawn animations and a re-orchestrated soundtrack, the cult classic returns with a unique blend of exploration, action, and adventure. Play as Lizard-Man, Mouse-Man, Piranha-Man, Lion-Man, and Hawk-Man, and use their unique abilities to uncover the land’s deepest secrets. Switch in real-time between the original retro graphics and the visually stunning modern remake, and input your old Sega Master System passcode to unlock all of your old saves and progression – just how you left them in 1989.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch tomorrow, April 18, and for PC via Steam in “a few weeks.”

Nicalis has announced that it will publish a physical edition of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap for PlayStation 4 and Switch at major retailers across North America in Q1 2018 for $39.99.




Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is currently available digitally for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, Mac, and Linux.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is a beautifully drawn and animated remake of the unforgettable Sega Master System game Wonder Boy III.



It finds our hero cursed by a dragon, forced to live in the form of a Lizard-Man (and new additional forms) until he can break the curse by defeating all of the other dragons in the land. The game’s developer, Lizardcube, reverse-engineered the original game in order to faithfully replicate the character movements, item drop logic, secret door locations and much more.


The Switch and PS4 versions of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap are presented in widescreen HD, with enhanced interface functions, a new playable character (Wonder Girl) and the option to toggle between the all-new hand-drawn visuals and the original graphics.

Headup Games to publish in Europe and Australia.

The PlayStation 4 and Switch physical editions of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap confirmed for release by Nicalis in North America last week will be released in Europe and Australia by Headup Games, developer Lizardcube announced.


The physical editions will launch in Europe and Australia in Q1 2018, the same release window planned for North America.


Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is available now digitally for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, Mac, and Linux.
