World War Z Sequel

Budget is apparently to blame, but while The Playlist says Fincher’s figure was below the first movie’s $190 million budget, sources close to the production tell Collider that Fincher’s budget was actually overthat number. The same sources tell us that Fincher’s refusal to budge led to Paramount halting pre-production, and Fincher is now off the project. It’s conceivable that World War Z 2 could still happen with a different director at a lower budget as we’re told Pitt and Co. were happy with the script, but Paramount became uneasy with Fincher’s figure given that this is not only an R-rated sequel to a movie that came out six years ago, but a China release for the film is out of the question given the country’s ban on zombie-related content.
Paramount Scraps David Fincher’s ‘World War Z 2’ over Budget Concerns

I'm indifferent to this news but I do hope that this means that Fincher will take on something else and we'll get some new material from him soon.

I didn't like the first one but this kind of bums me out because I think Fincher could do amazing things with a big-budget zombie apocalypse movie.

Hoping his next project is something horror-adjacent or maybe sci-fi (still think a Fincher Rendezvous with Rama would slay, but maybe wouldn't be very marketable unless they got some big names in the cast). I think he has mastered the procedural well enough and I don't particularly care for his forays into drama with stuff like The Social Network, Benjamin Button, Gone Girl, etc.

Good, let Fincher stick to crime/urban/business thriller and dramas. We don’t need more zombie films for no reason.

Shame, actually really enjoyed the first movie and was excited for the sequel, this could make a really good series.

I feel like this is something that'll be a crazy story for a bit, then will be mostly forgotten and eventually will just never materialize.
So, yeah.

And there goes my interest. The shareholder meeting must not have went well.

Just give Fincher what he wants, Jesus. I guess they want the sure thing with more Ethan Hunt.

Good... now hopefully someone can take it and actually make a World War Z docu-series instead of a bad zombie action flick.

Man, just give me my Leo and FIncher collab. I'm sure Netflix would write a blank check.

It’s funny how HBO and others try to hold back Fincher’s spending. He’s ****ing Fincher... it’s dumb.

Five years since the last Fincher movie. He was also attached to do Strangers on a Train with Ben Affleck.

It's understandable. He will run a budget up if he isnt kept under control. Which would be justifiable if he was a box office draw, but hes never been a huge draw. Talent wise hes one of the best. At the box office he's just barely ok. Hes never had a film make more than $400 million and that's including inflation adjustments. And his average box office draw is only $124 million.

You dont put a man like Fincher in charge of a zombie movie and give him $200+ million budget. Its poor business sense.

I had a feeling this wasn't gonna see the day of light. I was right.

I hate seeing David Fincher's time wasted.

Fincher doing this movie would've been a huge waste of his time and talents.

Let's face it guys, this movie getting a sequel was a longshot. The first movie didn't do that well. It only barely broke even. It didn't get especially get great reviews, and people didn't exactly leave the movie begging for a sequel.

Paramount was clearly dragging their feet here and was in no hurry to make this movie happen. Paramount's in a lot of debt right now, and they want certified hits like Mission Impossible and not volatile properties like World War Z.

Girl With Dragon Tattoo was a financial disappointment. That's why they didn't bring him back for the new movie. It cost too much and they didn't get enough ROI.

What a shame, I would have seen a second one. But maybe it works better as a one and done.

Maybe they could make an anime Netflix series later or something?

Zombies are over just like Teen Vampires. Now it's all about 80s nostalgia.

We need a resurgence of slasher films. It's about time we've had a new serial killer join the ranks of Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers.

You don't like Baby face from Happy Death Day or New Pennywise? :o

The new Ghostface.

Though I didn’t see anybody dress like that last Halloween.

Pennywise on the other hand...
