I got the idea to start this thread from here. Anyway, I'm going to break things down in both cable and broadcast (i.e. ABC, CBS, CW, Fox, NBC, etc.), and try to give me a good reason why.

ABC: canceling daytime soaps All My Children & One Life to Live. They lied to fans about their future. Replaced them with a cooking show and a weight loss/style show. Mark my words, when the daytime soaps due, the primetime soaps and scripted shows are next. Talk shows & game shows are growing too much.

The current ratings system is a poor excuse and is even more inaccurate in daytime. SOAPNet ratings never get counted.

The future of daytime soaps need to be seasonal.

When there is no daytime soaps on air, NBC, CBS, and ABC are dead to me. The future for writers, directors, actors/actresses is taking a hit.

CW is the worst network easily. All there shows are crap creatively and commercially and are geared toward 13 year old girls.

NBC may be the lowest rated of the 4 major networks but their comedy shows like Community, 30 Rock, the Office and Parks and Recreation are loved by critics though Community is the only one I care for.

NBC. Sunday Night Football is their only highest rated program.

Network TV? NBC...without a doubt. They have been beyond mediocre for at least five years. Sunday Night Football is their only saving grace, oh and Jimmy Fallon of course.

All the networks produce garbage these days compared to the 1980's-1990's.

NBC Nothing but Crap
ABC All Boring Crap
CBS Countless Bad Shows
CW Crap Waste
Fox- No anachronism, It's just reality garbage all around.
I was a diehard TV Junkie who consumed 15-17 hours of TV a day. Now my TV is practically a paperweight due to the content that's currently being produced. Idiot talk shows, Court shows, dreck reality shows, game shows and mindless dramas and mediocre sitcoms like 2 and a half men.

Growing up with TV in the 80's and 90's was like a golden age compared to the garbage of today.

Dude I wholeheartedly agree on this, back then watching TV while doing my homework was fun and families would sit all in the living room.

I think with the advent of cable television there are just so many options which is why TV networks looking to grab an audience tend to remake old sitcom ideas with terrible results and then there's reality TV which has made household names to tons of no talent nobody's.

Sports coverage has been the only consistently good thing these networks (except CW) has. It's been mentioned earlier that NBC only has Sunday Night Football as the bright spot.

Although there is a bit of good news for NBC: This is an Olympic year, meaning that they should get high ratings for the 2012 London Olympics. The bad news is that it's in August.

CW is pretty bad but NBC is not far behind. If they get rid of Community it is equally as bad or worse.

CW in my opinion has more bright spots than NBC.

Yes it sucks that all soaps will soon be extinct like dinosaurs. I was an avid OLTL fan but now that it is gone it is very depressing.:csad: However starting in early February a possible merger of OLTL & General Hospital will take place. It will start as a crossover event to finish up the tale of 2 Todd's storyline that was left unresolved before OLTL ended & if it is successful then they will probably weave more OLTL actors into General Hospital's storylines.

Sadly, this is what daytime television is these days. Better off watching the channels that show reruns of old shows that you actually like.

In terms of Cable, maybe one of those "specialty" channels that lost their way and became a muddled mess of "diverse" programing. Like G4.

SyFy (uggh) could be the coolest channel on the TV, but it isn't. They've got two shows about finding ghosts. Ghosts. I'd be more inclined to watch Dr. Who if it came on that channel or old episodes of Star Trek. It's the channel NBC Universal has decreed as their toilet.

I have to agree. CW is a broadcast network that's run like a cable network, and that's not a good thing. Cable networks have always targeted niche audiences, but broadcast TV is supposed to appeal to as many audiences as possible with diverse programming. Rather than diversify their schedule, CW tends to target a young female audience. There's very little for young males, older males, older females, or even the elderly who keep CBS on top.

[pedant] Anachronism or acronym? [/pedant]

You can tell NBC has no idea what to do with SyFy because it's where they shove their extra wrestling shows; nothing against wrestling, but it has no place on a science fiction channel. Still, they've got some good original shows on there. They used to have Doctor Who, but they squandered it. BBC America has made the show more popular in 2 seasons than SyFy/Sci-Fi could in 4 seasons.

Don't forget about the science fiction classic, Casino Royale.

To the posters dissing CW & SyFy. I don't blame, but CW had Smallville and has Supernatural. SyFy has Being Human. But yes, they can do better. Forgot about Eureka on SyFy...some of the Sat night movies are good. But yeah, tv today is on a slow decline. Blame reality tv. Killing the scripted shows.

Oh and Blitz. Agreed! SyFy could use Star Trek in the evenings! I mean, it may save costs and can get rid of weaker programming. I'm actually liking Chiller more. Let's hope Chiller keeps older shows on in mornings. Like 7am-7pm should be old SyFy and horror shows. Then new stuff. Have a careful balance. Build a audience with the reruns, them grow at night with new shows Mon-Fri. Have Sun and Sat be movies and Dat Fear Factor.

And more Brimstone. Don't make me bug you Chiller on twitter and Facebook. Oh wait, I already do about it.

Smallville and Supernatural are the same two examples people give that the CW doesn't entirely target teen girls. Smallville isn't even on the air anymore. Do you know what is? One Tree Hill, 90210, Gossip Girl, The Secret Circle, and Next Top Model.

Bravo needs to burn in the deepest darkest pits of hell, taking the "real" housewives and Andy Cohen with them.

One Tree Hill is having it's final season this year. I think CW can do better. Have only 1/4th or 1/3rd of the shows be soaps. Rest should target men. Get rid of the reality crap.

I'm not a fan of reality TV, but I believe it has its place. They're much much MUCH cheaper to make than any scripted program, and they provide more variety than simply making a bunch of game shows.

Fear Factor can be seen as a reality show, a game show, or a living nightmare. :awesome:
