Batman Begins Would you think of Batman Begins as a British Film?

british director, british cast, british crew, british sets......yep its british

Nope i wouldnt call it a british film. I wouldnt call fantastic four a black film. Oh god there are like no black people in marvel or dc movies. Really theres like 1 black guy in batman begins and one black guy or gal in superman, spiderman 1 and 2.

It seems the article is talking about where the films were shot. And since a good one third of BB was shot in England...

It could be considered British for sure, for the reasons stated by other posters. I find it not surprising, since the comics Batman seemed to be quite close to British people: quite a few of his adventures abroad happen in England, his butler is British, some of his adversaries are anglophiles (Penguin, Mad Hatter), Gotham City often looks like Victorian London, etc.

Meh, bull****. Its American through and through. But even if it isn't, it doesn't take away from the film itself, so its a really null argument.

I think Batman Begins is much less American than say Batman Forever and B&R. I would say that Begins, like the comics Batman, mixes elements of British gothic fiction to noir and hardboiled American crime fiction. It's really a mix of both, but no doubt that Batman is a very Anglophile American icon.

I've always seen it as a British film. The production company is British, majority of the cast is, and was largly filmed in the UK. It's an American story and icon, but with Begins I feel the US imput was funding.

The previous series were certainly American, but the Nolan ones will be viewed as a British effort. Is that such a bad thing though? It's clearly not a bad movie, and Americans can still claim the name as one their own, but this film is a British interpretation of an American classic.

I think because I have family involved with the production it feels a lot closer to home for me.

although i hate to say it, a lot of crap comes out of Hollywood's "American Movies". if it has to be considered British to be taken seriously and seen for the masterpiece it is, then let it. as long as those limey Brits keep em coming and don't throw Hugh Grant in it i'm happy.

Yeah, I would. Just to hammer that home -

Christian Bale .... Bruce Wayne/Batman (British)
Michael Caine .... Alfred (English)
Liam Neeson .... Henri Ducard (British)
Katie Holmes .... Rachel Dawes (American)
Gary Oldman .... Jim Gordon (English)
Cillian Murphy .... Dr. Jonathan Crane (British)
Tom Wilkinson .... Carmine Falcone (English)
Linus Roache .... Thomas Wayne (English)
Morgan Freeman ... Lucius Fox (American)

Like.. every Gotham Extra would have been English. It was filmed in England (mostly,) the Batmobile was built in England, the Stunt Co. was English, aswell as the stunt men. Then of course Nolan, Crowley, and 2 of the Producers. The real big American contributions were Goyer, Holmes, Freeman and the budget.

the only person in the movie with a british accent in it is caine because he is pretty much incapable of hiding it. all the other actors are using american accents so i would consider it american.

Yeah cos putting on an accent changes everything. They all sound British in Pirates of the Caribbean, but that's still an American film.

i guess you could view it that way, i was thinking in the context of the characters themselves, not the actors or production companies though.

The batmobile scene was filmed in flippen chicago. It doesnt matter if the actors are british. The batmobile is the movie.

But int erms of atmosphere, sensibility, etc, Batman begins can be considered quite British, as much as Batman the comics can be considered anglophile.

Well, the only one speaking with an accent is Caine, so no. America all the way baby.

"Born in the USA....."

Hey hey hey, let's not get into Batman's sexuality. That's a private matter and I won't see it discussed here on the forum.

it's a us movie, y'know... chris nolan is british but he grew up in the usa just like his brother jonah... they call it uk movie b/c it was filmed in the uk just like charlie and the chocolate factory... same with tim burton's batman...
