X3's competition getting slammed by critics!

LOL at Joker. I seem to remember he was talking about some movie slump and about how movies don't make the money like they did before? Sure they do. It's just a matter of what the movies are.

DaVinci just had a 29.5 million dollar Friday with lousy reviews and the audience is nowhere's near as broad as X3, and DaVinci won't have nearly as many repeat viewers.

85 million for X3 Fri-Sun, 100 for the 4 day holiday weekend.

It´s relative, I think people talked a lot about the slump thing because of MI III, that movie was expected to perform very well. I guess other factors played there, like Cruise´s overexposure on the media and the disposable nature of the franchise, I think people are not into that kind of stand-alone style of sequels anymore, they wanna see the continuation of a story, like in Spíder-Man or the last couple Harry Potter movies or LOTR.

hmm...now I'm worried...I knew DVC would be big...but not that big...I'm worried now that it'll take a chunk out of X3's take...which I was originally projecting to hit the 85-90million mark...can hollywood have two great openings in a week?

^ It's all about content & interest. DaVinci had alot of buzz but I don't think it'll have big legs and surely almost zero repeat viewings. Mission Impossible was a great film but it really wasn't anything different from the first 2. Just a better made film than the first 2. I guess you could say the same about X3 but there are far more X-Men fans from the comics and the movies than there are for X-Men. Tom Cruise may have boosted up the #'s of the first and second film more than that franchise deserved...that's why they hired him.

Nothing to worry about. There's always gonna be competition and Memorial day weekend is long enough for people to get out of the heat and see 2 films. That's the great thing about 4 days weekends. And since X3 will be the only new release DaVinci will drop off 60% easily for the Saturday-Mon period compared to this weeks Fri-Sunday. The weekend drop for the same period will be skewed because of the Holiday but it will do the same for X3. X3 is the movies the largest demographic wants to see next weekend.

ha! my brother said he saw da vinci code last night and was bout 2 walk out in during the movie but stayed and told me a lot of people didnt like the movie as they were leaving. im eXpecting this film 2 have a huge drop for neXt wkend. peace.

I think people don't like the DaVinci code for two reasons: The frst one is that they have been raised as christians and it's really hard for them to accept the things they hear in the movie (even if it's just fiction) and the other one is that a lot of people have read the book already and know so much about the film that they couldn't be surprised by what they saw.

Just saw DaVinci. I thought it was OK. Nothing to write home about, but not awful. No reason to see it on the big screen.

I really thought Da Vinci would do better. I've already committed to seeing it tomorrow.

The movie felt long, but mainly due to my ass being uncomfortable in theatre seats. :p

But overall, DVC was great.

but, the highest grossing movie this year has still be an animated film.
Over the Hedge will be #1. it's almost summer and the kids aren't getting homework, so they can start going to the movies a lot nowadays. family films are released in summer for a reason!! also around x-mas season for a reason.

Well so much for Over the Hedge getting number one. It's going to be a distant second to Da Vinci Code, which made an excellent close to 30 million dollars on Friday alone. Movie was fantastic by the way. The critics were completely off the mark with this one. Also, from what i've seen and read around different boards and stuff, people seem to be really enjoying the film.

Also, why are people worried that X3 is going to flop becuase of this? X3 is going to be huge. Its a SEQUEL to a VERY successful franchise. It will most definately have a massive opening weekend, especially since the second one is considered one of the best comic book films made so far. Average joe movie goers will flock to X3 since the first 2 were so good. So its going to make its money, dont worry.

There should be no doubts at all it's gonna be huge. 100 million in 4 days.

Nobody should be worried about anything. X1 and X2 had a slew of bad reviews from popular well known critics. People have 3 choices:

1) Go in and watch a fun summer action movie with your favorite characters.

2) Be miserable, think hate, and pick the film apart.

3) Don't buy a ticket.

I wish I had your optimism...

It looks like DaVinci's gonna make about 80 million +/- over 3 days on a non-holiday weekend X3 has 4 days which means kids will be going back twice. It's a no brainer. 100 million is pretty much assured or damn close to it.

Nah it won't flop. No matter how much Da Vinci Code rakes in this week, there is a ton of hype for X3. Like I said before, it's a sequel to a very popular and well liked franchise. Part 2 made a lot more money then part one, and it was enjoyed better by the masses too. It left enough of a good taste in people's mouths that they will flock to see this new one, expecting somethiing just as exciting. Whether the film is considered a disapointment or not depends to be seen, but even if it's hated, i doubt it will make anything less then it's budget. So no, I don't think it will flop at all. I think it's going to have a very excellent opening weekend, and it might very well reach the $100 million dollar mark by day 4. Especially if it has good word of mouth.

1 and 3 are reasonable........:o

Lets not jump the gun. My sister saw it and said it was ok and it dragged a lot. She said people were leaving the theater. I don't want the movie to flop, but I think it'll have that huge opening because of fans that have read the book. It may drop big on Saturday. We;ll have to wait and see.

I have seen MII3 and the movie is not good at all. I have not read any reviews but, I have seen the movie and it lacks action, some actors are barely used, woman who plays Tom's wife in the movie was a bad choice b/c she can't compare too Thanie Newton. In other words, MII2 was way better than this new version.

As far as Poseidon, I saw it and the movie was really bad. I was bored and I angry about something else that happended throughout the movie but, I will not post what it is b/c I do not want too offend anyone.

What are Friday's estimates for Over the Hedge, BTW?

-TNC

Friday estimates for OTH is 11,000,000. It should jump Saturday because all the kids not being in school. I'm thinking a 35 mil opening weekend. Kind of lackluster for a film that is in over 4000 theaters.

And did someone say M:I 3 lacked action?

agreed worthy i liked DVC too

DVC was sold out at the 11pm showing my friends went to tonight (sat)
