Yeah. It’s about time to reveal this stuff. I hope it lives up to expectations and looks markedly different from the games we’re used to seeing.

agreed. have to start convincing us why the next generational leap will be worth it.

also, apparently, MS has said the games shown at this Thurs Inside Xbox will be 3rd party titles. They are saving their 1st party stuff for other events during the summer, it seems.

Oh right. Will be good to see some glimpses of next gen at least then.

whichever console is cheaper, I am getting it this year. Games can wait, they'll both be BC so I'll just play older games, no biggie.
Yeah, being able to play a tonne of older games (that I haven’t even got to yet) on a stronger system is enough of a selling point for me.

Xbox 20/20: Join Us as We Look into the Future of Xbox - Xbox Wire

This is a momentous year for Xbox, with our next-gen console paving the way for all our games and services to come together in even better ways. Here’s what 2020 looks like, just to start:

  • Our goal remains to launch Xbox Series X and Halo Infinite this Holiday
  • All 15 Xbox Game Studios teams are hard at work on next-generation games for Xbox Series X and Xbox Game Pass
  • The best development teams around the world are working hard to have their games ready to play on Xbox Series X this holiday
  • For PC players, we plan to support the community by making all our major releases at launch available with Xbox Game Pass for PC, including Halo Infinite, Wasteland 3, Minecraft Dungeons and of course, Microsoft Flight Simulator.
  • We have new updates and titles lined up for Xbox Game Pass for console and PC
  • We’re expanding Project xCloud into new countries and on new devices—and later this year Project xCloud and Xbox Game Pass will come together, enabling you and your friends to play together in more ways.

nice! and it looks like 1st party titles will be discussed in July.

this is also an example of what I mentioned in the PS5 thread. How MS/Xbox has been more proactive in their next-gen marketing approach compared to Sony, which is one reason why I find myself more excited and interested in the Series X, while feeling relatively lukewarm towards the PS5.

Sure, the PS5 reveal, whenever that may be, will generate buzz and excitement. And I'm sure Sony has their own plans and events lined up in the coming months, with new games of their own to showcase

But so far, Sony is way behind the curve in terms of engaging their community re next-gen plans, whereas MS has been ahead of the curve since they surprise revealed the Series X last year.

I feel like I am leaning towards the PS5 by "default" and because of Sony's track record of exclusives. However, I can't say I am terribly excited about the PS5 itself. The specs to me are underwhelming. The BC situation is murkier (and limited to only PS4). And the controller is ok and acceptable but rather meh. And if the controller design hints at the console design, then I'm sure I will have a similar reaction to that. Especially the color scheme.

The last piece of the puzzle for MS is to demonstrate there will be a steady supply of high quality exclusives coming in the near future. That makes the July event crucial.

If they get it right like the early Halo games then it would be significant. It needs to be a step above the last 2 to entice players back who had dropped the series.

June event will be focused on "platform and services."

Xbox Series X June Event to Focus on Platform and Services

could be when we get pricing info, as well as reveal of the oft rumored weaker "Lockheart/Series S" console.
It will be nice to see next gen games tomorrow but I’m most looking forward to the June and July presentations. I want to hear more about the machine and see what those first party studios have been working on.

agreed.

I was going to watch live but am doing things around the house. What are the highlights?

I'll look for a replay later or something

Some new game announcements. First-party announcements will be in July.

Near as I can tell, most games you buy for current gen will also be for the next gen. I missed the beginning, but there was no big guns. And it highlighted the current issue with jumping generations in terms of graphics.

In terms of games that I'm interested in, besides AC Valhalla, there were 5 new games that caught my eye:

Bright Memory (The gun-sword FPS shown first)
Scorn (The Alien looking game)
Chorvs (The sci-fi space shooter)
Scarlet Nexus (The Bandai Namco anime game)
Medium (The horror game)

However, in terms of some great graphical leap, I can't say I was terribly impressed. But, I get this is just a 1st taste and the July event will be more important for the 1st party reveals.

Bright Memory is on Steam and it's pretty much a tech demo for Infinite. Made by one person too...

Scorn was revealed few years ago in a Kickstarter campaign.
