Xbox Xbox Series X|S Thread

yes, ecosystem is an important factor when it comes to deciding which console to go with.

I'd say I am invested in both ecosystems, so I can go either way. With maybe a slight edge to Xbox now.

I have been with Playstation longer since PS1. However, I don't have any of my old PS consoles or old PS games to play. And with BC less robust on the PS5 it seems (unless there is a surprise announcement of full BC), I have less incentive to keep a library of pre-PS4 games. There is also nothing outside of the Playstation console to keep me invested in the PS ecosystem.

On Xbox, I have accumulated quite a collection of digital games over the years, including some major AAA titles. Plus, there is Game Pass. Xbox also offers broader BC, and I do have a few 360 games in my library, with others I'd like to play. So, I have more incentive to keep and play older Xbox titles.

Xbox is also tied to a broader MS ecosystem with Windows and PC, which I am already plugged into by using Windows laptops. And, since Xbox lets you use your own custom gamerpic, I can use the same "visual identity" across platforms and devices, like a Superman related pic. That may seem like a small thing, but to me it means something.

I'm also invested into my Xbox achievements more than my Playstation trophies. And while I have hype friends on both my Xbox and Playstation friends lists, over the years it seems like I have more interaction with my hype friends on the Xbox side of things.
I didn't have the privilege growing up to have multiple consoles but I've had all of the playstations. Even the handheld ones. the only exception would be the pocketstation if anyone even counts that.

Between the two brands, it sounds you are slightly more ingrained to xbox. I've had a couple of PCs growing up too and I tried PC gaming but I could never really get into it. I like having a computer for everything but not for gaming. And for the last 10 years I've been using a macbook for my computer needs anyway.

Phil Spencer has done a great job in having a more Japanese gaming presence within Xbox. I expect we will see even more of that next gen especially with gamepass. Speaking of RPGs though...I hope that Mass Effect stuff turns out to be true.

Series X and Series S Unboxing Videos!

And man! That Series X is THICK!! If only they could have made the Series X in the form factor of the Series S!

But both consoles definitely look better vertical. That means I'm going to have to rearrange my media cabinet space.

Yeah. I've tried PC gaming a bit and I just prefer the convenience of a console. though, now that I do have a somewhat more gaming capable laptop, I can use it a secondary option to play some games. And again, that's where Game Pass and digital Play Anywhere games that I already own comes into play as part of the ecosystem.

Technically, while I currently don't have an Xbox, I could just buy an Xbox controller, download Killer Instinct and Forza onto my laptop, and play some Xbox games while I wait until November. And theoretically, once Xcloud becomes available on PC, I guess I could just use that to stream Xbox games on my laptop (or android phone). But, I would still prefer playing on a console.

And I'm holding off buying an extra Xbox controller until the new Series controllers come out.....haha.

I may actually have to try for all access when it comes to Canada. (Would be nice if it was at the pre order date, but I have a feeling it won't be until the end of the year)

Looked it up and 499 is 656 Canadian right now, and that is not including taxes. So above 700..

As Covid took my job my savings were diverted to other things. Was hoping it would be a tad less but it is what it is I suppose

decided to pull the trigger and get the series x gonna put it on pre order cannot wait to get this bad boy my first time buying a system at launch since the PSP *shocked face*.
Awesome, congrats dude. Hope you love it!!

Sorry to hear about your job mate. I hope you can afford it later down the line when it reduces in price then.

I have no choice in how I place my Series X but on it's side as it wont fit in my under TV media rack in the vertical position. I MAY once I get my home theater wired up place it on top of on of my front speakers in the vertical position and do the same for PS5 when I get it (but on the other front speaker).

I really wish they offered a XSX with no disk drive. I am sure like me others have no use for it. All games and movies are either downloaded or streamed. Cut the cost a bit.

For $500 it's a pretty good value. But if you google "Xbox Series V" there is a rumored AD version of Series X going around now

edit: here is the guy who leaked everything about the Series S one day before mS officially announced it

I wonder whats the reasoning/meaning behind the letter S and V. I'm guessing S as smaller, X as Xtra large but V?

S is for Slim. Its an upgrade of the Xbox One S(lim).

X could mean Extreme and is an upgrade of the Xbox One X.

V could mean Variant since it is a digital variant of the console.

got an unexpected surprise a 200 buck check from my job for a bonus for perfect attendance for the year I am so putting it towards my X pre order with this and the $$$ I got from selling my Pro I have the new xbox MOSTLY paid off!
Ultra nice!! :)

yeah I figure less than 100 out of pocket between now and Nov that will be no problem I am so pumped!

Haha, you maintain symmetry with that setup.

Great news!! Just 2 months to go. :cwink:

I saw a tweet from an insider (?) that the Series V aka Edinburgh is actually not for consumers.

can you post the tweet here?
Yeah, I'll try to find it. It's probably in the thread of Brad Sams's tweet.

Also I saw an edited version of the promo pic showing the "Series V" doesn't align with "Series S" and "Series X".

The dimensions and thickness of the Series X may end up posing a problem for my current media cabinet setup.

I've been using various objects to try to approximate the new consoles to see how they would fit in/on my cabinet shelves. And my media cabinet, unfortunately, does not have a lot of functional shelf space. Only the top of the cabinet and a middle row of shelves/openings. The rest is drawers for storage.

The top part is already crowded with my tv, sound bar, Switch, and Wifi booster. By design, the Switch and Wifi booster have to be on the top part. The middle shelf isn't tall enough for the Switch or Wifi booster. And because of that, it also won't be tall enough for Series X, even on its side horizontally. Plus, I don't think the Series X looks visually appealing when it is horizontal.

So, if I get the Series X, it HAS to go on my top shelf. But again, it's relative thickness may conflict with everything else that occupies the top shelf. There's just not that much room left.

The PS5, being thinner, looks like it would fit better. Both vertically on my top shelf or horizontally on my middle shelf. And, I think the PS5 still looks visually appealing on its side.

Now, if the Series X had the form factor of the Series S, this wouldn't be an issue. So, the form factor of the Series X may rule it out for me, as it doesn't fit well with my current media cabinet setup. I'd either have to buy a new media cabinet or mount my tv on my wall, neither option I want to do.

I'm eager to see PS5 unboxing and comparison videos to get a better idea of the size of that console and how it compares to the Series X and to the PS4/Pro. Hopefully, we'll start getting those next week, too, after Sony's Wednesday event.

Back when the Series X was first unveiled, I always thought in the back of my mind that the vertical tower design and form factor could pose a problem for media cabinet placement.
