My neighbor is having a yard sale today. Her and her stupid sister moving crap woke me up and made me come to a realization. Yard sales are for jackasses. They are just a bunch of garbage thrown in someone's yard or garage and sold for a dollar so some cheap ******* can make a quick buck. And don't give me that 'one man's trash is another man's treasure' BS. One man's trash is a cheap *******'s way of making money

Me: bought a cookie jar for 10.00....later sold for 1,000

bought box load of comics of 10 cents.....found mint issues of Wolverine 4 issue from the 80's and early 100's Uncanny X-Men AND Incredible Hulk issue with first appearance of Wolverine which I later sold for a BIG profit.

old Mego dolls and GI Joes(old ones dammit!) some still in the box later sold for $$$ and tons other things I found at yard sales

so yes one man's junk is another treasure, btw some dude actually found a 1.00 painting that was later valued at several millions dollars

Those are just urban myths.

G-rated Hype sucks :( Bring back the days of Bakerboy and Mr. Parker! Where someone who shall remain nameless could talk about his plans to kidnap and do god knows what to Michelle Pfiefer and not even get a warning! A time when organic web shooters could be compared to a certain function of the male anatomy without even raising an eyebrow! Those were the days!

Hardly consider I bought that 'junk' except for the painting. That's true, seen it on the news and newspaper

I know someone who bought a 5.00 lunch box and know it's worth over 1,500 and he did too, that's why he bought it. Lucky dude, also know a guy that sold to my friend a lunchbox for 100.oo it's worth many times more then that because it's the first lunchbox of Superman from the 40's. Something I want to get my hands on but they usually sell for couple thousands to 60,000 depends on the condition

Or maybe its all in your head. There is no lunch box. There is no Hype. Free your mind. Quit going to yard sales.

Nope, I'll be going to more yard/garage sales for a long time. I know what stuff to buy that I can make a profit of :p

Matt's just been to the wrong yard sales.

Yep or maybe I beat him to them :D I'm always there as soon as they are open to get first dibs :)

My wife has bought lots of cool stuff for the house for ridiculously low prices.

:)

Early is the only way to go. Besdies depending on where you live people sell some really good crap. My gf is a school teacher and uses the sales to stock her classroom library. No sense in buying new what the kids will tear up in a week.

This is definitely the way to go. Estate sales are also another great place to pick things up. Family members that are selling a deceased loved ones thing often don't know the real value of them.

How do you resell it? Ebay? Antiques roadshow!? And how on earth can you tell what is junk and what is valuable (like the cookie jar...the comics and toys I understand)?

I believe Morg is in the antique business and has an experienced eye for this sort of thing. Also, he's super old and was THERE back in the 30's and 40's so he knows what was good quality and what wasn't.

I found an old Back To The Future movie storybook at a yard sale once. Sometime later, I sold it on eBay to a guy in the UK. He paid nearly $20 for it.

I think Garage Sales are better than Yard Sales, and Moving Sales are even better.

Dude, you prejudiced grump...I came home from work one day and saw a neighbor's yard sale.

Now I had NO idea that at some point (probably in the late 80's, I'm thinking), Linda Evans (of Dynasty fame) was endorsing a plastic mask with electrodes on the inside designed to electronically stimulate your facial muscles while you wear it (so lazy old women can tone their faces).

So there I see this creepy looking flesh-colored mask with vaguely feminine features with a cord coming out of the chin leading to a flesh colored control box (like Darth Vader's chestplate) and there are metal studs on the inside.

Now where the hell else am I going to get such a great S+M-ey, Clockwork Orange looking wall decoration?

Where?

It also came with an instructional video, which I have yet to watch but I'm sure it's hilarious.

F**k that, man. Find some silly little girl to put that mask on and hook it up to a TENS unit, man!
