The MCU dominates my list of my 10 favourite comic book movies of all time so much and I thought it likely featured heavily in a lot of other people's top 10's so I thought it would make for a change to compile a list of my 10 greatest excluding the MCU.

(So the likes of Maguire Spider-Man, Garfield's Spider-Man, Reynolds Deadpool, Hardy's Venom and all The X-Men movies are available as even though they are all Marvel characters they are not in the MCU you can even pick from the two sets of Fantastic Four films although I don't know why you would want to)

In no particular order here is mine

  1. The Dark Knight
  2. Batman Begins
  3. Spider-Man
  4. Spider-Man 2
  5. Wonder Woman
  6. Watchmen
  7. Logan
  8. X-Men First Class
  9. Shazam
  10. V For Vendetta

What would your list be?

I take it this has got to be live-action, so;

1. The Dark Knight
2. Batman Returns
3. X-Men: Days of Future Past (Rogue Cut)
4. Batman Begins
5. The Dark Knight Rises
6. Watchmen
7. Batman v Superman
8. Wonder Woman
9. V for Vendetta
10.Blade II

LOL except one, didn't really have to exclude any MCU films to get a top 10, would be pretty much the same list anyway:

1. Superman 1978

2. Mark of Zorro 1920 (silent Fairbanks (saw in revival theater with a live orchestra, and clasical spanish guitar, , great action, comedy, romance and drama all still holds up, in fact they are still borrowing from it today

5. Spider-Man

7. Captain America (First Avenger) is the only one I need to swap out, I'l put Spy-Smasher 1942 serial, or the Rocketeer.

MCU doesn't dominate my list.

TDK
Begins
Batman Returns
Batman
Deadpool
Spider-Man
Spider-Man 2
Logan
X-Men: First Class (replaces The Avengers)
X-Men: Days of Future Past (replaces Guardians Vol. 1)

I take it this has got to be live-action, so;

1. The Dark Knight
2. Batman Returns
3. X-Men: Days of Future Past (Rogue Cut)
4. Batman Begins
5. The Dark Knight Rises
6. Watchmen
7. Batman v Superman
8. Wonder Woman
9. V for Vendetta
10.Blade II

How did I forget this

Must have seen it at least 20 times

:thf: Will have to have a long think on what I will replace on my own list for V for Vendetta

No MCU, huh?

TDK
Batman Begins
Wonder Woman
Spider-Man 2
Deadpool
Superman
Spider-Man
Logan
X-2
Superman 2
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)

If you include animated films then Incredibles, Lego Batman, and Mask of the Phantasm probably spot in there somewhere.

1. Dark Knight
2. Logan
3. Into the Spiderverse
4. Days of Future Past
5. The Dark Knight Rises
6. Superman
7. Spider-Man 2
8. X2
9. Superman II
10. Batman Begins

Hmmm, tough one...

1. The Dark Knight
2. X2
3. Spiderman 2
4. Logan
5. Deadpool
6. V for Vendetta
7. Batman
8. Superman
9. Batman Returns
10. Scott Pilgrim (good call on that one Darth)

2. The Dark Knight Rises
3. Spider-Man 2
4. Batman Begins
5. Superman
6. X-Men: First Class
7. Deadpool
8. Stardust
9. X2: X-Men United
10. Batman (1989)

I'm only counting live-action so no Into the Spider-Verse, Lego Batman, Mask of the Phantasm, etc.

1. Spider-Man 2
2. The Dark Knight.
3. Spider-Man.
4. Logan.
5. Batman Begins.
6. Spider-Verse
7. Deadpool.
8. Batman 89.
9. Batman Returns.
10. Superman 78.

My 1 and 2 are definitive but the rest of the list rotates depending on my mood.

And if I could include MCU, maybe only one or two of them would be on there.

This is a really good thread idea. I’ll have to think on this one, but Raimi’s Spider-Man and Spider-verse are definitely at the top.

If no MCU and live action only..

Batman(1989)
Dark Knight
Batman Begins
Superman The Movie
X2: X-Men United
X-Men: Days of Future's Past
X-Men: First Class
Spider-Man 2
The Crow
Logan

1. Spider-man
2. Spider-man: into the Spider-verse
3. Dark Knight
4. Deadpool 2
5. Wonder Woman
6. Logan
7. Spider-man 2
8. X-men First Class
9. Batman Begins
10. Deadpool

On a related note I watched Scott Pilgrim the other day for the first time and..... wow. You wanna talk about overrated. I mildly enjoyed it until the third act which felt like the single longest stretch of any movie I’ve ever seen.

Wait...Zorro is a comic book character??????????????
Well originally a pulp, then movie character, but he had comics before allot of the Marvel characters so yeah.
And although I'd classify him more a proto-superhero, he definitely embodies allot of the tropes that would inspire the later Superheroes. Masked, caped, wealthy hero secret ID, secret lair. etc.

So, not a comic character???

A comic book movie is a movie based on a property that began as a comic, right?

Like I said yes he originated in pulps, then films, yet also had comics before several of the Marvel characters. And I'm considering his overall impact on the genre; the comics and movies theme of the thread.

Jerry Siegel: "I loved The Mark of Zorro, and I'm sure that had some influence on me." ..."When writing the script, I had Douglass Fairbanks very much in mind in the athletic stunts that he did too, so the influence of Douglass Fairbanks was not only in the art but in the visual action."

Joe Shuster - "I was a great fan of Douglas Fairbanks, and so was Jerry and I tried to use his stance, the way Douglass Fairbanks looked, ...with his hands on his hips, in Robin Hood and Mark of Zorro, in all those he had those marvelous attitude..." " [His costume] was inspired by the costume pictures that Fairbanks did: they greatly influenced us. He did The Mark of Zorro, and Robin Hood, and a marvelous one called The Black Pirate - Fairbanks would swing on ropes very much like Superman flying... the feeling of action as he was flying or jumping or leaping - a flowing cape would give it movement.

Bill Finger - "Batman was a combination of Douglas Fairbanks [who played Zorro] and Sherlock Holmes."

Bob Kane -"Zorro’s use of a mask to conceal his identity as Don Diego gave me the idea of giving Batman a secret identity…Bruce Wayne would be a man of means who put on a façade of being effete. Zorro rode a black horse called Tornado and would enter a cave and exit from a grandfather clock in the living room. The bat-cave was inspired by this cave in Zorro. I didn't want Batman to be a Superhero with superpowers…So I made Batman an ordinary human being; he is just an athlete who has the physical prowess of Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., who was my all-time favorite hero in the movies.”

While I wouldn't normally, I am counting him here as comic and movies adjacent , for the fun of this thread.
You don't have to count him, sorry if it bothers you. :cwink:
