Since we have a negative discussion thread (which is entirely valid), we most definitely need a positive vibes thread.

For me the top three things are:
1) Jackie Earl Hayley.... this movie just shouldn't exist without him as Rorshach.
2) How clear the narrative was. In the book I would sometimes forget what the overall plot was, not that I even really cared since I was enjoying it so much. But in the movie you are always reminded that something big is going on and the heroes actions seem relevant to that plot.
3) The special effects. Everything looked so good and did justice to the expansive scope of the story. I'm glad WB had enough faith in this movie to give it the budget it did.

1. BUBASTIS!!!!!

2. The end, with Seymour.

3. The soundtrack.

1. I'm not locked in here with you....You're locked in here with MEEEEE!!!!!!!! - Rorschach
My entire theater was pretty much on it's feet :applaud

2. I think watching Dr. Manhattan's backstory while he was on Mars may have been another one of my favorite parts of the film.

3. The beginning credits were done incredibly well, and the music was perfect.

I know there's tons more but the movie is still running through my head and I'll need a second viewing probably before I can register everything :funny:

Great film

1- Art Direction. Give them the Oscar. No contest. They built another world, and it was beautiful.
2- Walter Kovacs. Rorschach was fine (I didn't like how much he gestures), but without his face, Jackie Earl Hayley did a wonderful job.
3-The opening credits. I had to make an effort no to cry.

Rorschach and Dan- Great Team from two guys who should not get along.
The Visuals- Great attention to detail, sure we will see more in the DVD.
True to the Source- Alan Moore should be pi$$ed when he reads some negative reviews. It was that close in some respects.

-The intro and the Comedian's death.
-Dan/Night Owl - This film made me love the character.
-Rorschach

Do i really have to pick just three? Okay, I'll try...

1. Jackie Earle Haley. He simply BECAME Rohrschach. One of the most impressive performances in a film of this genre... right up there with Ledger's Joker.

2. Dr. Manhattan's flashback sequence on Mars. One of my favorite parts of the book, and executed perfectly in the film.

3. The unique choice of music (which has been getting a lot of criticism, but oh, well). It gave the movie a feel unlike any other superhero movie because it almost gave it a "Forrest Gump" kind of feel. I mean that in a good way; what make a Vietnam/hippie era period piece like Forrest Gump so appealing to people is that it features events that they remember; significant things that were important in history. Watchmen does the same thing, and in both films, the classic rock soundtrack enhances that.

1. As most Jackie Earle Haley was amazing, Rorschach every scene with him was perfect. And well acted.
1B. LOL I will kinda add a sub like: I was actually really amazed by the over all acting. I thought it would be 300 bad for a while, but then seeing it, I was actually impressed *besides old Sally* I actually was impressed.
2. Manhattan himself, I was amazed to the way Billy spoke, it actually really really worked.
3. I was amazed how well it felt like the 80's in there. Most movies seem to slightly do it, but there is always errors, or mistakes of things that were not in the given time period. But Watchmen really felt like you were in 1985.

1. Rorschach

2. Manhattan flashback

3. Opening Comedian/Veidt scene. very intense.

1) Jackie Earle Haley. The man simply owned. In a film where I though the leads where great (except Ackerman) he was the standout.

2) Visuals where spectacular.

3) The ending. It worked.

DO IT!

Locked up in with MEEE!

GIVEEE ME BACK MY FAAAACEEE!!!!

NononONONno NO NO STUPID STUPID!

And everything else in the movie. But I loved Jackie's delivery on those.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the ending was fine. I actually think I prefer blaming it on John rather than a fake squid alien. Something about that never sat right with me.

I thought that as well, in a world where Dr. Manhattan was the only real superhuman, everyone just buys into other-dimensional alien beings after one attack?

can anyone tell me whats in the opening scene without spoiling it

a man beating up another man then the beat up man gets thrown out the window by the other man..... it was intense man....

man to the power of 5

  • Rorschach Rorschach Rorschach. Despite being a little different from what I expected (was surprised he completely FREAKED OUT upon being surrounded by police - the GN plays him more calm), he brought more dimension to the character and I didn't even really miss the backstory that was cut. Heck, I'd say he was even a little endearing in the movie because he was a bit more hyperactive and on edge. I :waa: :waa: when he died.
  • The shot of Dr. Manhattan appearing on Mars was just breathtaking. Beautiful.
  • The fact that Zack was so faithful to the book. It was sometimes a detriment story-wise, but the art direction was so painstakingly rendered, it was just a joy to see the comic come to life. I'm really amazed at how much they could do.

1. Rorschach

2. Anything that happened in the prison

3. The first five minutes (Comedian's death/opening credits)

can anyone tell me whats in the opening scene without spoiling it

You should honestly just watch it without explanation. The opening credits is a terrific and extremely creative montage the pays justice to the Minutemen and the entire story as well. Dylans "The Time They Are A-Changin" complements the creative design of the intro. It sets up perfectly that those simple times would soon seem miniscule in importance to the world that awaited the Crimebusters.

1. JEH as Rorschach / Walter Kovacs
2. The Comedians flashbacks / His death (tie)
3. Opening credits!

1. Easily the first 5-7 minutes are the best moments in the film. The opening of Comedian's murder to Nat King Cole's song was BRILLIANT. Then following is one of the best opening credit sequences I ever saw with the recounting of Watchmen's world told simply and elagently to update audiences to Bob Dylan. Best part of the film, hands down.

2. Dr. Manhattan's first scene on Mars. The use of Philip Glass music and the rather cerebral and introspective narration of Crudup's voice coupled with the great editing and visuals made for the most touching, sad and human scene in the movie I thought. It is where the film finally really grabs audiences and makes them care about the characters in the movie, I think.

3. Rorschach in prison: "I'm not locked up in hear with you, you are locked up in here WITH ME!"

And just a few more:

4. Rorschach's death was handled elegantly and beautifully. After Dr. Manhattan's backstory it is probably the most moving moment in the film. And I'll just say it: Snyder putting Dan there so he could see what happens to Rorschach and his subsequent reaction to beat the **** out of a self-grandozing "martyr" in Veidt was a much better way to handle the death than present in the novel where I don't think we ever see Dan's reaction or if he even knows Rorschach is dead.

5. The sex scene on the Archie with Dan and Laurie. And NO, not because of nudity or something as ridiculous as that. It was funny. It was well done. The use of Hallelujah has been overused in movies. But it was done to classic comic effect here. I know a lot of fanboys already hate it and are going to grow to spit on this scene more in the months to come, but that is because they never understand the value of humor. And considering this movie and story is also a satire, taking shots at the ridiculousness of superheroes, including the fetishness of the costumes (and the way women dress in comics continues to display this unspoken truth for comic fanboys who want to play ignorant) was well done and the funniest moment in the movie.

1. Rorschach
2. Overall visual orgasm after visual orgasm.
3. It was about as faithful as it was going to get...until the director's cut that is :cwink:

1. The first 10 minutes.
2. Rorschach (in general)
3. Dr. Manhattan's backstory
