Id say you should expect it to do Pineapple Express numbers since they're basically the same type of movie. Maybe it is I have no idea what Pineapple's numbers were. Sure that had Rogen but Danny McBride is no small name anymore combined with Portman and Franco it should do fairly well.

Don't let Roger Ebert's poor review keep you from seeing it. Remember, this is the same guy who said Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Tim Burton's Batman were crap. So I wouldn't put too much stock in his opinion.

I say go see it and make up your own mind.

You mean those movies weren't crap? Let's face it, this film has not been well received by critics and movie goers. That's a good indication of the quality of the film. I'm still going to watch it, but at least now I've prepared myself for the worst.

While I agree one should make up their own mind, Roger Ebert is hardly an idiot. He doesn't just make up his opinions out of thin air, and just because he doesn't follow popular opinion certainly doesn't make him stupid.

Actually he does follow popular opinion. When Speed was coming out, Siskel & Ebert gave the movie "Two Thumbs Down". Two weeks later, after Speed kicked butt at the box office, they went back and changed their minds, giving the movie "Two Thumbs Up". I kinda lost all respect for them after that.

Saw this yesterday. It was bad....it was really bad. Very few funny moments. I just didn't like it at all

I still think they must have had a well-reasoned opinion for it. Although I'm not closed to being proven wrong on that.

I'm a huge DGG fan, and I think McBride is perfect in Eastbound. I read all the naysayers here, and said "**** THAT." Then I saw the movie.

Sadly, it's OK at best. It isn't near as terrible as the internet is making it out to be, but it isn't that good either. Which is automatically a travesty because the first red band trailer was glorious!

I don't know what happened. Great concept, stacked cast, this should have been an instant classic. It's worth a watch, but it's no where near amazing, not even close to Pineapple for that matter.

This opened with 9.5 million and came in 6th. This has officially bombed.

Entertainment Weekly has pulled b.s like that with their second look reviews. It's not often they do but it has happened a couple times.

I finally got to watch this today . I liked it. There are some really funny lines and the cast was enjoyable. Also the action was alot better than I would of expected. Overall it was decent . I give it 6.5/10

Saw this tonight. It was pretty funny. Danny McBride was hilarious as usual, Natalie Portman was smoking, Zooey Deschanel was barely in it (sadly), the dude who played Leezar was awesome, and James Franco was James Franco. I liked it, but I get why people don't. That kind of humor isn't for everyone.

I also kept thinking that if they ever do get around to making Ghostbusters 3 (and 4 apparently?) they need these special effects people, because the witch mother things magic blasts looked like updated proton streams.

also the baby guy that made the hand monster. wonderful.

Did anybody actually expect this movie to perform well? I was excited to see it and I even thought it was going to do poor. The victory here is that this actually got made.

Considering Pineapple Express was a pretty big financial and critical success and had a 23 million opening weekend I would say the studio and fans were expecting better in terms of an opening and reviews yes.

For most of it's 102 minute running time Your Highness is quite funny.
I found myself laughing out loud and shaking my head at the insanity of it all.
All 3 leads are great Danny McBride, James Franco, Natalie Portman.
I liked the nods to sword and sandal flicks like Clash of The Titans.
But during the second half the jokes are replaced by a surprising amount of blood
and gore and a ton of SFX(Think of the Force Lightning from Star Wars coming from hands, the sky,and who knows where else!
If you're offended by sexual humor, bodily fluids or anything else you can think of stay far away from this flick.
Scale of 1-10 a 7

I think the reason people didn't like it is that it tried to be both a fantasy movie and a low-brow comedy.. I think audiences would've warmed up to it if it knew what it wanted to be.

That said, I smiled for most of the film and laughed at some scenes (mostly that were in the red-band trailer). If people want to see it, I recommend a cheap matinee or wait until it comes out on DVD/Blu-ray.

Well I said what I said because this weekend was so crowded, especially with new movies. It just seemed to me it would get lost in the shuffle. And the fact this was a fantasy movie at it's core probably turned people off too. I don't know it just seemed to me this movie alienated more people than Pineapple Express did, and I found Pineapple Express to be way more accessible to audiences.

It would've been better if they didnt talk like they did. I would've enjoyed it more if they talked like anyone in our century. Like Princess Bride.

But when they tried to put a story, and all that into it, the movie just got...weird. I cant figure out why it failed, but it did IMO.

Well just saying the studio gave it double the budget of Pineapple Express and Pineapple Express made nearly 90 million domestically. So it is kind of hard to make the argument that at least in the case of the studio that they were expecting this film to get lost in the shuffle. With the kind of opening it has had it is gonna be lucky to even break even.

I wanted to love the film, but I ended up just liking it. I think one of 3 jokes were funny. It just lacked the charm of McBride's 'Eastbound & Down', which also has vulgar humor.

And Zooey Deschannel was underused in the film.

Well I was speaking more in the perspective of the viewer rather than the studio when it comes to getting lost in the shuffle. Whatever though, I never talk about box office so I'm done.

ok so to those who have seen it...so i can decide what i want to see this week that i still haven't would you choose this or Paul?

I don't know. I haven't seen Paul. I mean, Your Highness' first act is a mess, but it gets better by the time Portman comes along.

Again, Zooey Deschannel was underused, along with the villain (Justin Theroix).

Was this a bad movie?

Yes.

Did I enjoy it?

Very much so. Or to in McBride-speak, "'Tis ****ing-A." The only thing I didn't like is the 3-4 minute Red Band trailer from last year gave away half the punchlines.

I mean it is a fantasy spoof/stoner comedy, so I wasn't expecting much quality. I do think it could have been funnier, but there was enough to keep us entertained for its short running time and James Franco and Danny McBride had great chemistry. Natalie Portman, Zoe Deschanel and Justin Thereox were given enough material to steal their scenes and it just left us amused and entertained.

Plus the action is very sharp and surprisingly fun.

The mvoie is trashy, sometimes offensive and has some slow moments. I wouldn't call it good. But many of its critics overlook it is destined for home/dorm video to be watched during a certain environment. I can't come down hard on this movie for that.

At the sametime, I've seen better stoner movies.

The sad thing here is that I love the 'homage to 80s fantasy movies' angle that it was going for, but the laughs were too cheap. Again, 'Eastbound & Down' was vulger too, but it was still clever with it's dialog whereas here, it's kinda..too broad and borderlining lazy.

So basically this would make a good double feature with Cheech and Chong's The Corsican Brothers?

Have yet to see this, but I read the original script draft a while back, and trust me on this: the film could've been a WHOLE lot worse than what we finally got.

First off, Thadeous was portrayed in a completely different manner than in the final cut. Yes, he liked to party and get drunk, but instead of being a stoner like in the final version, he was an absolute wuss. He even occasionaly pisses himself in fear as an occasional running gag! I can see why they changed his personality, because I can't see Danny McBride playing such a wimpy character.

Also, the whole plot of Fabious's bride getting kidnapped is not in this version of the script, nor is the Blade of Unicorn. Instead, it's about Thadeous's first quest to see out an incredibly lame weapon called The Hoop Of Doom. I **** thee not, that's what it was called. It was basically a destructive hula-hoop. Yeah.....moving right along. Lastly, the ONLY scene that remains intact from this in the final cut is the sequel bait at the end.

finally watched it...i liked it, but the comedy just didn't ever peak...it was one note the whole way through...McBride was hilarious as always, but it was like people in the movie were surprised at how vulgar he was...and yet they also had similar moments. So I just thought they didn't really stick with what made McBride funnier than everyone else. The unexpected F-bombs were underused and the weed jokes were overused. If that makes sense. The more I think about the movie though, the more I realize how funny it was, it just wasn't laugh out loud funny...just kinda laugh to yourself funny.
