Your top 10 films by genre.

Uh, yes. I've seen tons of movies, but just because I've seen or even liked a movie doesn't mean I think it should automatically get a spot on a top-5 or top-10 list.

For instance, this is my top superhero film list:

1. The Dark Knight
2. Iron Man
3. Batman Begins
4. Spider-Man 2
5. The Incredible Hulk

If I had to make a top 10, I'd probably include Batman Returns, Batman 89, Spider-Man, and a few others. But they get the remaining spots by default because I'd need another 5 to meet the top 10 criteria. They don't get on the list because I feel they are my personal top 10...you see what I'm saying?
No, I asked that because, for example, your list of top 5 "dramas" - all movies are dramas in some respect - contains no movies released before 1994.

See what I'm saying?

Shawshank came out in '94. :o

But why would you think I haven't seen a lot of movies because of that? At most you might infer I don't care for older dramas, which isn't necessarily true--I just don't have any favorites predating 1994 that I would put on a personal list. The fact my favorite dramas are all post-1993 is purely coincidental.

Typo on my part.

It still tells me that you haven't seen very many movies. Or that your standards regarding what constitutes "a lot" are very different from my own.

How? I've seen movies like Double Indemnity, Schindler's List, Seven Samurai, Casablanca, and Citizen Kane -- all older dramas. I don't have to like them, and if I did, I certainly don't have to include them on any top 10 list if I don't want to.

It has nothing to do with our definitions of "a lot" -- it has to do with our difference in taste of movies, which as everybody knows is a relative thing. If you think a top 10 drama list should consist most of archaic films then that's your personal preference.

Schindler's List came out in 1993, it's hardly old.

Also, like I've said, top 10 lists are pointless. Especially if you've seen so many movies that narrowing down lists of 10 is almost impossible.

Right, but the point is you concluded that I 'must not have seen many movies in my life' because 'the films on my list of top dramas don't predate 1994.'

You may find it hard to make a top 10 list because you have too many favorites; I find it difficult because I have too few. That doesn't mean I've haven't seen many movies; it means I haven't seen many I'd place on a top 10 list. If I've seen 100 dramas and enjoyed 75, does it necessarily mean I will consider 10 of them my all-time favorites? No, it doesn't.

The reason I did a top 5 list instead of a top 10 list was because, in terms of dramas or westerns, I don't have enough to fill a top 10 list. Conversely, I could easily fill an action, adventure, or comedy list.

Yeah it kinda is, I mean, it's pretty damn hard to rank your favorite movies... and if you finally succeed to make such a list and post it in a stupid thread like this, no-one is gonna read it anyway... If this thread was named your favorite film per genre, it would be a bit more interesting, but then again, people would start posting lists anyway...

Wow, we're actually talking (i.e. writing) about something instead of posting lists! :wow: I don't think this thread is meant for that! Let's take it somewhere else. ;)
Boo, you ****e... :csad:

I'm sorry, but you make really, really crappy threads. This is one of 'em.
