Top 10 favorite comedies of 2000s

I pretty much hate anything involving Adam Sandler, Judd Apatow, Melissa McCarthy, Will Ferrell, Wes Anderson, or anything comparable to The Hangover. Needless to say, I've largely hated the 2000s-2010s... so here are my 10 for the whole 14 years:

1. I Love You Man*
2. Going the Distance
3. She's Out of My League
4. Wedding Crashers
5. Role Models
6. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
7. The Internship
8. The Wolf of Wall Street
9. Hot Tub Time Machine
10. Zombieland

*Paul Rudd is the only exception from the "Apatow Crowd" - he's the only one I can tolerate, and he's pretty much my favorite comedic actor working today. Vince Vaughn would be my second favorite. They have a natural everyman quality that seems effortless, whereas if I see someone like Zach Galifanakis or Steve Carrell, I'm immediately turned off because they seem like they're clearly trying to play for big laughs.

What does age have to do with comedy?

The majority of Hollywood comedy is juvenile and becomes harder to stomach with age. A lot of denigration jokes toward fat people, stupid people, geeks, blacks, et cetera that are hilarious when one is ignorant are seen as problematic when one becomes more aware.

Examples include Thor: The Dark World and the Adam Sandler movie Waterboy, absolutely painful for me to watch because the jokes are not just flat-out not funny but actually incredibly unnerving, but I'm sure that at age 13 I would have enjoyed them greatly. In fact I remember enjoying The Nutty Professor as a teenager so there you go.

There are some exceptions. If you look at the ones on my list, I'll argue that their humour comes from critiquing an idea rather than denigrating a class of people. The Lego Movie is actively ****ting on other comic book movies among other things. Knocked Up and Wedding Crashers both highlite the absurdity of failing to grow up.

I was also able to enjoy the HBO show Silicon Valley recently ... but they have much better writing than what you find in movies like Thor 2, Adam Sandler whatever, or most sitcoms.

Conversely, kids cannot enjoy most dramas, so they take up <10% of one's viewing time when one is younger.
