A Californian woman has claimed her late father was the infamous Zodiac Killer who terrorised the San Francisco Bay area four decades ago.
Mystery Zodiac Killer 'Was My Father'
Detectives said they will check into the information from Deborah Perez.
The 47-year-old insisted her dad, Guy Ward Hendrickson, killed at least two of the known victims 40 years ago.
The Zodiac Killer is believed to have murdered at least five people, and possibly as many as 36. But his true identity has never been confirmed by police.
Sergeant Lyn Tomioka said the investigation into the 1969 death of San Francisco taxi driver Paul Lee Stine related to the Zodiac killer remains ongoing.
The case inspired a hit movie in 2007 starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr.
Sgt Tomioka said: "We get a significant number of calls a year. We will look into whatever evidence that is presented to us."
Hendrickson, a carpenter with six children, died in 1983 from cancer.
Many believe the killer was Arthur Leigh Allen, a convicted child molester from Vallejo who died in 1992.
But Ms Perez reportedly alleged, as a young seven-year-old girl, she helped her father write and post some of the letters that earned him the Zodiac nickname.
The Zodiac Killer sent letters to local newspapers, including The San Francisco Chronicle and The San Francisco Examiner.
They taunted police, media and the public with clues and riddles of his identity.
Ms Perez also claimed to be with her father at the Blue Springs Golf Club in July, 1969, when he allegedly killed Darlene Ferrin, 22, and wounded her companion Michael Mageau, 19.
