It's makes me angry that so many people are ignoring the real issues.

People need easy access to proper health care.

They don't need easy access to guns.

As much as I agree with you - I think the important issue here is that innocent people died while just trying to enjoy something they love.

I think the serious talks about citizens having access to weaponry that just isn't necessary for them to utilize, even for protection, are appropriate. Just not right now.

My dad texted me saying that perhaps we should waite on seeing the film. He said "incase of a copy cat". That's a little paranoid no? Or do you think he's right in waiting?

Both.

It is certainly paranoia and giving into sensationalism, but I wouldn't blame someone for taking some time off from this stuff.

No. He bought the weapons from a Bass Pro shop and a few other local shops that Im not familiar with.

He bought tactical gear, probably including his riot getup and the drum magazine from that website for that price.

*Edit* The fact that his mother wasn't surprised bothers me - did he indicate to her that he was planning something? Smells fishy.

You're right. He bought tactical gear, a magazine pouch and a wharning knife from tacticalgear.com

"A receipt obtained by CNN shows Holmes bought some of the tactical gear, including a vest and magazine pouch, online on July 2."

All it takes is one sick **** to change lives permanently. Very sad. Colorado has executed one person since 1976, I'm hoping this psycho is number two.

I saw someone say they can't enjoy this film now that this shooting has taken place. When planes were hijacked on 9/11, I didn't stop flying. When Gabby Giffords was shot last year in Arizona, I didn't stop following politics. I enjoyed TDKR and I'll watch it again, without thinking about this tragedy. And I definitely don't think of Columbine when I watch 'Matrix.' People have to learn to compartmentalize. This guy would have gone off the deep-end and shot a bunch of people even if this movie had never come out. He would have just become obsessed with something else. Maybe 'The Hobbit.' He was going to explode either way, he was just searching for a way to do it in the most dramatic, attention-seeking fashion he could.

My heart goes out to all those lost in this tragic and senseless tragedy. Really sad to see some people excited to go out late at night to let loose and enjoy a film only to have a mad man go off the deep end. I will not be shocked to see politicians, media moguls, etc. make it seem like "these" films have a role to play in this. While I'd hate to have to go through metal detectors (having a metal rod and cage in my back from back surgery), if it can help avoid disgusting acts of violence such as this I am all for it. These are just sad times we live in.

Thing is, metal detectors are misguided. They wouldn't have helped considering the guy kicked in the fire exit door, and wasn't an actual patron of the movie.

Sources say he bought a ticket, sat in the theater for a few minutes and left out the emergency door propping it open, coming back later.

I thought it was confirmed that he was? That he bought a ticket, propped the exit door open, left and then came back in. Was that debunked? You're right though, metal detectors wouldn't have stopped anything.

I cant believe how long the cops are working on trying to diffuse this psycho's bomb.

Seems like he made it that complicated to deal with.

Crazy. Everytime I see that graduation photo of him I can see the insanity in his eyes.

Im betting when they give this guy a psych eval theyll conclude hes insane.

Even if he bought a ticket, he still left through the exit to go get his body armor and weapons, and then came back in the emergency exit(whether he propped it open, forced it open, or someone let him back in).

Okay no I hadn't heard those reports. Hell I heard one report last night that his motivation was that the screening sold out. But no I had t heard the reports that he bought a ticket, was in the theater, left, and came back. I've been trying to follow this story as much as possible today, but im at work and can only read as much as I'm able to break off into the corner for. So I may be behind on some of the details.

Metal detectors would be a knee-jerk reaction. Shootings can happen anywhere. I don't want to show up two hours before a film. The atmosphere at a cinema should be relaxing, not like JFK airport.

With all due respect to your dad, he's being paranoid. Do not let the act of one psychopath disrupt your plan of seeing the film. I'm certainly not.

Yes life needs to go on, you can mourn, but don't stop living your lives.

Yeah, I said these same exact things to him in a text about an hour ago. He said it was a good idea to go see the movie, get this stuff off our minds for a bit. I guess it was just a bit of paranoia that over came him. My dad has a habit of being a bit over protective of us sometimes, lol.:oldrazz:

I can't even bring myself to read up on this tragedy. It hits so close to home.

In a ****ing movie theater for God's sake :csad:.

The movie theatre, as much as we ***** about people being jerks and what not in the audience, was like the last safe bastion for most people. You hear about fights once in a while, but nothing like this. **** is definitely gonna change regarding security.

I wish we could just fast forward to the next few weeks when the hysteria calms down. There's no need to have beefed up security and metal detectors at every movie theater.

On a side note, I'm watching The Dark Knight on TNT right now and they just played a commercial for TDKR. I guess WB hasn't pulled all the spots like they said they would.

My thoughts go out to everyone affected, it's really a shame. I haven't seen the movie, but I've been hearing on the news that there was a trailer for a movie called "Gangster Squad" before the movie, which apparently had a scene of some shootout in a movie theater, which is a very dark coincidence.

Yeah, that trailer is being pulled from TDKR, I believe. I also read that the trailer did not play before this specific showing.

I think they are editing the TDKR promos, not removing them completely.

Edit them for WHAT? You can't really sanitize the violence and drama out of a Batman spot without making it unexciting. Will it just be a bunch of clips of Bruce walking around a party?

This is really the saddest thing I've read about in along time, mainly because it could've easily been the theater I was at. I mean all the people in that theater were probably just like me... Waiting four years for a movie and this tragedy happens now, some of them will never see it...

And I'm sorry if someone has already brought this up but does anyone know if there was anyone from these boards there and if so has anyone heard from them... ?
