i'm not in favor of extreme gun control, but i don't think banning automatic assault weapons is extreme. Our founding fathers probably didn't take into account guns that could shoot hundreds of rounds per minute. You don't need that to hunt.

this!

But where do you draw the line then? A shooting spree could happen in a park, mall, bus, train, restaurant, library, anywhere. This time it was a theater. Next time it could be any of the places I listed. Should we have metal detectors for every public building or place in America? We should not live in fear.

This. Don't start screening theaters. People can get shot anywhere. Planes make sense, since they are essentially missiles in the wrong hands, but a theater having a metal detector is the kind of knee jerk response this country doesn't need. Maybe more screening for gun purchases should be put in place, but giving me a pat down to watch a movie is insanity.

This is very horrific, and my heart and prayers are with the family.

It's also kinda of sad to know that this movie won't be discussed for a long time without this also being talked about, not trying to sound dickish.

They guy propped open the exit door. Last time I checked, exit doors don't have metal detectors usually. So putting them inside the lobby suddenly goes out the window.

I didn't see it from the beginning, but I saw on TV there's now lots of police officers around the theater I go to a lot acting as security now. I think the reporter had tried going in with her cameraman, but they wouldn't let her.

What did you say to the news reporter?

I basically said:

a) I just found out and didn't know all the details but that I thought that obviously I couldn't even begin to understand why someone would do that and that I thought it was a tragedy no matter what, but even more connected to myself given that July 20th was marked in my head as a day of celebration and excitement and instead it was tainted a bit by this horrible traumatic thing. I also threw in a jab saying the shooter should have his back broken and be sent to an ancient prison pit. Neither reporter or the camer aguy got it XD

b) They asked if I thought "cosplaying/dressing up" should be allowed at premieres. I said, given that I dressed as Joker back in 2008 :P, that yes absolutely should be but I think security shouldn't allow anyone with a face concealing mask or anything even remotely like a weapon or toy weapon even in. Backpacks are out too.

c) He then asked me my opinion on the movie and the series. Best part was when the reporter referred to this as the second oen adn TDk the first one. I corrected him. I also threw in a little thing supporting Bane and how much I feel the choice as the finale's villain is being brushed aside in favor of complaints regarding the absence of Ledger's Joker. Highly doubt any footage of me saying any of these things will see the light of day on the local news though haha. The first two answers I heard were aired.

The incident reminds me why I agree with the death penalty. Unless he is a schizophrenic, I think he should be offed. He seems like an extremely pathetic attention seeker to me. The fact that he surrendered to police without negotiations or a fight is really telling of his motives: Get as much fame as possible and make sure you live to enjoy it. And what better way to do that then attacking people at the most anticipated movie of the summer?

Headed to bed folks - sleep well, go see the film, and try to enjoy it.

My heart goes out to anyone affected, and much love to all the posters on these boards.

I'm not sure that's the case. The jury is (literally) still out, and will be for awhile; but what I think we're dealing with is a genuine sociopath here. Someone who simply and absolutely has NO regard for human life whatsoever. I don't think he did it because he wants to be noticed, or wants revenge, or feels like society owes him something, or because he hates somebody's politics or religion or whatever....I think he genuinely does not care.

And that's what a sociopath is. And a sociopath is the absolute worst type of evil that can ever exist in the world.

My one fervent hope on the justice side of things is that they DON'T give him the death penalty, nor isolate him in supermax in any way, shape or form. The absolute worst thing that can happen to a sociopath: put him in general population in prison. They will cannibalize him --- maybe literally. And it will be the worst hell that could ever be inflicted upon him.

R.I.P., Aurora; and much love and unity and solidarity to all you wonderful geeks and freaks out there like me....because THIS guy is nothing like us.

So from what i understand, he already clammed up and asked for a lawyer. Great...next we'll have a long, drawn out and very public trials, and this mothertrucker would probably end up with a life sentence, and a couple of years down the line comes the books and movies deals...which is exactly what he wanted all along!

Thinking about it just makes me insane with rage!

ItsJustSomeRandomGuy just posted a video about the shooting. He's postponing his Dark knight rises and Spider-man videos until next week. He also talks about the shooting.

It's like they use the Joker as an influence just to carry out there own craziness.

The Belgium child killer
The PTSD soldier
The school boy arsonist

They see this hyped up stuff and what to copy it, but just to act out their own sick fantasies. It acts as a crutch to support what they do, cause usually they wouldn't of had the confidence to do it in the first place.

This psycho...he's the same.

It's their obsession with the Joker that causes them to carry out their madness, because they relate to him and being him gives them the boost needed to go out and do something.

The legacy of Batman and Heath Ledger are tainted through those stupid bastards using them as the catalyst for their madness imo.

We can't blame the Batman world for what has happened though, because it's highly likely the nuttas would have done it regardless of painting themselves out as the Joker, some point down the line.

But, innocent people have their lost lives, and they should be in our thoughts.

Books and movie deals are usually reserved for killers who are morbidly fascinating or whose stories shine alight on mental depravity in a way never done before.

Nobody gives a **** about this loser. A book/movie deal? He's lucky if he gets an epitaph on his tombstone.

I could never imagine any politician in my country ever saying something so utterly disrespectful and inconsiderate.

Our dumb people in America are REALLY dumb. We do everything bigger. Good and bad.

My heart goes out to all the families of the victims in the Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting. Just horrific.

I wish the news networks wouldn't release the name and photo of this psychopath, or anyone else committing similar crimes. It just gives them the attention that made them want to do it in the first place.

As petty a detail the hair color may be I think it says alot about his intentions.

He's not obsessed with the Joker he just wanted attention and this huge movie was his golden ticket.

I think he's the ultimate attention ****e and troll more than a Joker fan.

I bet he went to neurology school (dropped out after a week), realized he was no longer the rare mega genius he always thought he was and couldn't cope. So he decided to get the fame he always wanted by being associated with the biggest villain of modern cinema. Think about. He didn't even try to fight the cops, he wanted to see the outcome.

Just a theory.

Strongly doubtful, if what I've heard is true, that being he was very successful in his graduate studies.

The most eerie thing about this situation is there is none of the "he was a bad seed/was tormented, etc." that always occurs. There's usually some hint of a reason why, but there is zero with this guy, at least so far.

It is done for attention. Huge attention.

When you're that deranged and obsessed, and literary in love with the fixation, in this case the Joker, you're going to do something with that fixation makes you feel empowered and you want everybody to know about it.

Even the Joker himself does every trick in the book to get attention from people, like all psychopath's do...he does it with what he's fixated on and he wants everybody to know about it, cause it has all the means to his end.

This does speak volumes on how psychopath's operate. Joker was the means of inspiration that gave them the push to do what they wanted to do for awhile.
Their actions aren't Joker inspired...it's their sense of identity for what they are doing. They think by making themselves the Joker, they get that push psychological push, for them to commit their own fantasys of chaos and murder, which they share with the Joker.

That's my opinion on it.

This has nothing to do with the Joker. There have been horrible serial killers and terrorists before the Joker was ever created, and there will be more killers and terrorists in the future.

This is not new.

This incident has been on my mind all day. I don't live anywhere near Aurora, but it's just frightening to think that it could've happened anywhere; even more frightening to think that this really didn't need to happen at all, and it's completely haunting. It's all very sad.
I've been reading a lot of reports about it and been watching a lot of news. Every time they show a picture of the gunman my blood runs cold. There's something about the look in his eyes. It's chilling.

Was anyone from the Hype! over there? That was one of the first things that came to mind when I first heard about this story last night.

I'm actually kinda nervous about seeing the movie tomorrow. I live in a small town nowhere near Colorado, And I know things will probably be fine, but still, I'm kinda weirded out by this news.

Don't get distracted from the real issues. Like I've been saying, there's a metal health crisis in America but people don't wanna talk about it because the discussion gets political and to most people that's "boring".

The dude maybe flipped out in anger because he prob had dreams and expectations of being someone big and after busting his ass to get a neuroscience degree he saw himself at a macdonalds. I wonder if he saw this Luka Magnotta killer freak get all this attention and that might have set him on the path of acting as a sociopath as means to get attention and started planning a big movie like spectacle with apartment traps and stuff.

Its sad that these crazy killers are starting to pop up just to get attention and be recognized as classic socio/psychopathic characters basically. I think with the internet and media today they feel they have a stage large enough to enact something gruesome like what a villianous character does on screen and it will show how trully special they are.

Other things to mention:
Lots of shootings in Canada and the US becoming more common, I mean just look at this poor sportscaster girl. She was in the Toronto mall shooting and now this. It is still counts with a large degree of coincidence, but its clearly reduced. Is gun control too lax and illegal firearms trade picking up across NA?

2. Are we seeing the last days of free environment theatres and midnight showings? Are we going to start seeing metal detectors/xray at the theatres?

3. Why do schools get to pimp out these degrees that have no job prospects? Thres so many people unemployed that have studied some pretty crazy stuff for 5 years and paid thousands and thousands.
