How in the hell does Walker take more shots than Shaq? And what was up with the free throws? Heat have to take game 2. ThE 1ST HALF (up 3 mintues to go) was perfect. We need 2 feed Shaq in the 1st half and some the 3rd, then let wade take over. The Heat can still win this, just need to stick with what got us there.

Well fot Miami to win they need to shoot free throws. Which they can't. They need to hope that Dirk and Josh Howard continue to go 7/24 from the field. Which won't happen.God forbid this game get any more uptempo.

Go Dallas - nice win. Since I'm a Detroit fan, I take pride in Shaq losing, can't help it.

I'd like to see Stackhouse get a ring since he played in Detroit.

...and I will take pride in the Pistons watching the Finals at home because of Shaq.

Dang Mavs take the series 1-0 they may have cooled the heat down but Wade will drive the heat right back at em,

Miami has no chance in hell at winning this series. It ends next thursday in south beach. Dirk and howard shot 7/25 and still won by 10, when they shoot a decent % they will win by 20+ plus. I feel sorry for shaq but when u shoot 1-9 from the line it kind of puts the blame on you. Antoine walker is the worst basketball in the history of the NBA

new heat playoff motto: win or stay home.

It's too early to be talking about this series being over. We've seen teams throughout these playoffs start off on shaky ground only to bounce back and win a series: Miami vs. NJ, Phoenix vs. Kobe, Dallas vs. San Antonio and against Phoenix, so on and so on...

If Miami loses Sunday then it'll be tough for them to get back into the series. Like I said earlier they need to get the split and win 2 out of 3 at home if they're going to have any chance at winning the championship.

I'm still surprised by the lack of coverage for this championship series.

No one on here really talks about it, and the fans who watched their team get knocked out ran away and are in hiding now. :)

But seriously, what's up with the lack of coverage? Are the "experts" and "analysts" that surprised about Miami and Dallas making it? I bet if it was San Antonio/Detroit again they'd be all over it in a heartbeat.

Or if it was Miami/LAL every channel would be talking about Kobe/Shaq. So either way I guess we should be glad that the "experts" are looking like fools now.

I am not hiding, I am simply Hibernating until next season!

Game 2 is tonight. Any predictions? I say the Mavs in a very close, tight, and suspenseful game. Although I will not be surprised if the Heat pull out a victory tonight as well.

Either way it'll be very interesting to see what happens.

Come on people, create discussion here! It can't be that bad or painful that your respective team isn't in contention at the moment. :( :)

I am nervous about tonights game to be honest. One thing these playoffs has shown is that anything is possible.

Curious, does anyone the tv ratings for game 1 of the mavs and heat?

CBS Blocks ABC's Shot Thursday NBA Finals get off to slow start; 'Windfall' OK for NBC

June 9 2006

Despite the presence of two big-market teams and a handful of stars, the NBA Finals didn't generate very big ratings for ABC Thursday, allowing CBS to take the night.

CBS averaged a 6.9 rating/12 share in primetime, beating out ABC's 5.9/10 (with the Finals airing live, those numbers may change some in the final ratings). FOX took third with a 5.2/9. NBC, 4.7/8, came in fourth, while both The WB, 1.5/3, and UPN, 1.1/2, were well back.

ABC did score a win among adults 18-49, drawing a 3.5 rating. FOX was a close second in the demographic with a 3.3. NBC, 2.8, edged CBS, 2.7, for third. The WB averaged 0.8 and UPN 0.7.

The pregame show "NBA Nation" scored a 4.7/9 for ABC at 8 p.m., narrowly winning the hour over CBS' "Gameshow Marathon," 4.6/8 (CBS had a small lead in total viewers). An hour of "My Name Is Earl" was third for NBC at 4.3/8. FOX was fourth with a repeat of "So You Think You Can Dance." The WB's "Smallville" rerun, 1.6/3, topped UPN's "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Love, Inc."

CBS took over the lead at 9 p.m. with a "CSI" rerun, 8.3/14. Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat posted a 6.3/10, edging a new "So You Think You Can Dance," 6.2/10, on FOX. Two more episodes of "Earl" averaged 4.1/7 for NBC. "Supernatural" kept The WB in fifth, ahead of "Eve" and "Cuts" on UPN.

"Without a Trace" finished CBS' night with a 7.8/13 at 10 p.m. ABC's NBA coverage improved to 6.9/12. The premiere of "Windfall" on NBC delivered a 5.8/10.

Ratings information is taken from fast national data, which includes live and same-day DVR viewing. All numbers are preliminary and subject to change, especially in the case of live telecasts.

Well that backfired

Damn its one thing for CSI to beat the NBA in ratings, but a freaking re-run

The ratings are surprising. I thought a matchup of two new teams, with recognizable stars would have been a bigger watch. I don't what they're up against today, but I would expect Game 2 to be a better draw.

As far as the game, the Heatians need to get the ball to the big man more often. Shaq Daddy only put up 11 shots. He was good at finding the open man for a high-percentage shot out of the double team early in the game. That was a big reason Miami got off to a good start. Near the mid-to-late 2nd quarter and further on, they got away from that and started jacking up outside shots. Dallas did drop down on Shaq and give some different looks defensively, but that usually offers better shots than what Miami was getting. After the first quarter and a half, the offense looked lost.

Miami needs to do a better job or getting to (and converting at) the free throw line; only Shaq and D. Wade attempted free throws in Game 1. The bench (particularly Posey and GP) is going to have to produce better; 24-2 is going to get it done. And for God sake, they have to do a better job at getting to Jason Terry off the screen. I was way concerned about him after seeing what he did to the Spurs.

The Heatians played decent in Game 1, but they didn't step up and take control of the game when the opportunities presented themselves. THey hit a lull and Dallas dictated the pace. Miami will need to be more deliberate on offense and livlier on the perimeter D to avoid that nasty 0-2.

The fact the the games are starting at 9pm Eastern probably has something to do with it. These games are ending at 12, maybe even later. If you're not a fan of the 2 teams competing or one of the few die-hard NBA fans then it just isn't enough to keep you up that late at night.

Sounds like a good pick to me. I will go with that.

In Game one, Shaq Only Took 11 SHOTS!!! Clearly he needs to do better at the line, but that's not his strength. He can own the Mavs big men, all Miami has to do is feed him the ball more and Miami wins. it's that simple. The Heat HELD dirk to 16 pts. It wasn't great defense that allowed shaq only 11 attempts, it was poor game planning. They've fixed that problem now. Heat take this game.

So far they're taking it alright. Just not the way you hoped.:)
