Can someone explain to me why machine guns are sold to people? I can understand rifles and all, hunting even though I don't agree with it. What point do machine guns have to the general public though? I mean some of these guns it just makes absolutely zero sense for the public to have access to them.

The attacker in France brought guns for a reason. The idea that someone could take out multiple cops with knives, bows, and bats is not based in reality, it is a clear strawman. If all that stuff is so effective in precision killing, why aren't they used more then guns?

Even if you think guns are used for convenience only, it proves the point. Guns make these things easier to do. It is why they are so commonly used.

And taking away the rights to own guns from law abiding citizens is false protection, especially when we have an unlimited supply of illegal guns just south of our borders. Our right to bear arms is apart of our fabric of this country, and if you don't like it, then move to another country where that right has been stripped.

Yes, because the constitution has never been changed, so one can never hope for sensibly. Oh wait....

And it is completely disingenuous to believe people use guns because they aren't effective here. But lets ignore that. Let's ignore how readily available a tool of killing is. Lets just keep our heads in the sand. It is clearly helping.

We all know that cops are killed daily in the U.S; i'm just wondering if the media's recent gravitation towards covering cop killings is making it seem like this is something new when, it has been happening all along….

Machine guns? Nothing being sold legally in gun stores or from licensed gun dealers are anywhere close to machine guns. There is a big difference between an actual fully-automatic machine gun and a semi-automatic rifle.

Guns do make killing considerably easier, and more efficient.

Though even if it is just the intent, the pro-gun lobby is bent on keeping us from stopping bad people from getting guns.

Machine guns (assault rifles) are not sold to civilians*. An assault rifle/machine gun is a rifle that has selective fire. Selective fire means the gun has a switch that allows the shooter to switch the gun between full auto, three round burst, or semi- auto. No civilian weapons have selective fire so they aren't assault rifles.

The military version of the AR-15 is the M4 and it has selective fire, but a civilian can't buy an M4.


*There is a way for a civilian to buy a full auto gun, but it is strictly regulated and expensive. The person has to get a class 3 gun license. It requires approval from the local sheriff/ law enforcement, requires a good criminal background check, psychological background check, and you have to be using te gun for educational purposes or for collecting purposes. And violating the conditions of a Class 3 license will get your ass thrown under the jail. America is actually pretty damn strict about assault rifles (selective fire) and full auto guns.
