6 Famous Characters You Didn't Know were Shameless Rip offs

I think the Doom Patrol sounds more like the Fantastic Four than the X-men.

It does.

Although the Brotherhood thing, and a wheelchair bound leader is...a little too close.

Batman's not a shameless ripoff of Zorro. If he was, Bob Kane would've never admitted that Zorro was one of his inspiration for the character. If Bats was a shameless ripoff, Kane would've never brought Zorro up to begin with.

Zorro > Batman

Quite a few of Batman's key elements came from Zorro and The Phantom. He's an amalgam of Zorro, The Phantom, Sherlock Holmes, and of course, The Bat. Oh, and The Shadow.

And for half of these, yeah, they're clearly borrowed concepts, and who gives a damn? Nothing new under the sun, and nothing particularly clever about the elements that were ripped off. It's how they're used. And I'll take Green Lantern over the Second Stage Lensmen any day of the week.

Surprised they didn't mention Swamp Thing and Man-Thing. Both came out very close together though.

Zorro > Batman
So I guess it was Zorro who's had decades of successful comic series and one of the highest grossing movies of all time. Oh, wait....

:D:up:

I knew that batman was kinda like Zorro and you see the 'Mask of Zorro' playing on most of the theaters before the parents was killed and you also see it "Epilogue" if I am not mistaken. (some comics of the parents death too)

So what? Does that make Zorro less of a character? Or does that erase the similarities Batman shares with him?

Batman wasnt a "ripoff" but Zorro was actually a influence to Bob Kane when he started

Batman is very much a ripoff of several characters, Superman among them.

"Animation was built on plagiarism. If someone didn't plagiarize 'The Honymooners', we wouldn't have 'The Flintstones' If they didn't plagiarize 'Sgt. Bilko', there's be no 'Top Cat'. Hucklberry Hound, Yogi Bear, Chief Wiggum, Andy Griffith, Edward G. Robinson, Art Carney."

Didn't that speech end with, "If we don't steal our ideas, where are they gonna come from?" :funny:

No, I was just defending the better of the two characters. You called down the thunder, well now you've got it! :cmad:

No, it doesn't make him any more or less of a character. But Batman has obviously made much more of an impact on pop culture than Zorro ever has.

Without Zorro.. There would be no
batman
:wow::wow::wow:

For you guys to drool over.
Holy ****!

I would say that is an obvious impact!!!

It was an impact on Bob Kane and a bunch of kids who watched TV in the 50's, sure. But overall? You have to give it to Batman.

Saying Batman is ripping off Zorro, because there would be no Bats without him, is like saying that a kid is ripping off his father when he ends up being better than him.

not the lion king!

More like, not the White Lion - or whatever it was called.

Yes, scenes and characters were stolen/used - but the story of a Prince banished after his father's death, to see is uncle take over the kingdom. . . sounds a lot like Hamlet.
