Captain Marvel 90s music you'd like to hear in the movie

Heh, love that goofy original Power Rangers movie. Actually saw some of it being filmed and met Jason David Frank & Amy Jo Johnson as a kid during my time in Australia.
Ha, that's awesome. Childhood me would have died, lol. I was massively obsessed with that show for a good while there.

Had totally forgotten there's a Van Halen song in that though, been forever since I've seen it. Just a tie-in song in the credits or something?
Sorta. it was the closing song of the movie, so it played over the last scene and the credits, I think. I just remember that was the first soundtrack CD I ever bought and that song was my fave. :funny:

Heh, well there is that long-running in-joke among the flyboy fighter-jock types that they all listen to Van Halen. :oldrazz:

But yeah, don't use 5150, not really representative of the time period. I guess you could go with one of their bomb albums from the 90s, which never connected with anyone, but the music' still pretty cool. It'd be more obscure than the classics everyone knows though.

For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, which came out in 1991, did go triple-platinum, and had the "Right Now" video, which was pretty popular.

I do remember learning the intro to "Top of the World" from Guitar World magazine, which was my favorite song off that album.

That was basically one of the last gasps of the '80s, though, so it really wouldn't set a good 90s mood/vibe.

Latest TV spot uses "Ready to Go" by Republica. Good choice for a 90s film but it came out (August 1996) after the majority of the timeline of CM (1995) so if its included in the film, it's a bit of an anachronism.

They would've been better going with B*witched for that TV spot.

Might have to redub that video with C'est La Vie at some point to see how it sounds and how it matches with the footage. I haven't watched it though.

Sweet :word: :D:

I went through most of this thread and didn't see this one. It is from 1997 so likely doesn't work in the time frame but it is catchy and it rocks.

Also this one from 1996 (warning do not watch this video if you may be epileptic):

Supposed list of songs used in the movie from the memory of one of the Reddit leakers:

  1. crazy on you - Heart

  2. Kiss me deadly - Lita Ford

  3. whatta man - salt N Peppa

  4. Connection - Elastica

  5. Only happy when it rains - Garbage

  6. Crush with eyeliner - R.E.M.

  7. Waterfalls - TLC

  8. You gotta be - Des'ree

  9. Come as you are - Nirvanna

  10. Just a girl - No doubt

  11. Man on the moon - R.E.M.

  12. please Me post man - The Marvelettes

  13. Celebrity skin - Hole

  14. Down by the water - Pj Harvey

  15. Cannonball - The breeders
That was the Nirvana song I expected, lol.

Btw, this was posted several days ago, before the TV Spot with "Celebrity Skin," and one of the reaction tweets referenced another song on there, so I'm inclined to believe it's somewhat accurate.

So from that track list, it seems the posters who guessed Cannonball, Just a Girl, Come As You Are, and Only Happy When it Rains had some good instincts. Cool to see TLC and Salt-N-Pepa show up there since they were big in the early 90s.

I'm guessing there's no Spice Girls, B*Witched, Steps, Backstreet Boys, etc?

Boo. What kind of a 90s playlist is this?

Push it would‘ve been so much better thanWhatta man, but maybe too obvious

This site seems to confirm some of them. Music from Captain Marvel (2019)

With a Beck song from his 2017 album, "I'm So Free", in the post credit scene.

Also, Celebrity Skin didn't come out until Sept. 1998, so that's late. Weird they didn't pick a song off Live Though This.

I like most of the music
Some fit scenes and some felt out of place but didn't ruin anything.

Honestly, my only complaint is I wanted the music to be louder. A lot of times, it was just playing on the radio in the background.

They chose a lot of classic female led jams from that era, especially moreso for how much the radio played them out.

I wish they had Black Hole Sun in there. Other than that I loved the song choices.

I love Soundgarden and I like Black Hole Sun, but it's wildly overrated. Since they already did grunge with Come As You Are, I'm fine with them skipping it. I was hoping more for some Verruca Salt or Breeders. Hole and No Doubt were good fits, though.

The songs I would have loved to have heard are basically tied to other film soundtracks of the period.Lol.

Other songs by popular female artists circa 1995 they could have sprinkled in

All I wanna do is have some fun- Sheryl Crow
Sunny Came home- Shawn Colvin
You Outta Know- alanis morissette

They probably wanted the harder sounding songs.

I forgot about No Doubt.

Why is 1996 your cut-off date?

I don't know if Wannabe would be the best fit for the film. It might be the most well-known and first single of the Spice Girls, but sometimes picking the most famous one isn't always best for a soundtrack.

Maybe "Stop" might fit in better?

This was one of the Spice Girls only #2 singles that failed to get to #1. But it's probably one of their most well known and most loved after all these years compared to some of the other ones that got the top spot.

Or "Who do you think you are?"

I suppose there is some Whitney Houston from the very early 90s. Oh and Bryan Adams too.

Any of their songs would have been great but Spice Up Your Life would have spiced up the movie more.

I can't believe they featured Garbage and TLC, but no Spice Girls, ugh. Stop right now, thank you very much!
