Captain Marvel 90s music you'd like to hear in the movie

They could say the Macarena was actually a song and dance on the Skrull homeworld, and that earthlings unwittingly adopted that dance too.

Those two Spanish men who sing the chorus could be Skrulls in disguise.

I guess I just figure this thing's probably going to be more some mix of Favreau-Iron-Man and Johnston-Captain-America in tone, rather than all-out deconstruction & Gunn-isms like Guardians.

Works for Guardians, this'll probably be tonally a good deal more serious though.

Well the Martian was fairly serious but still had moments of light heartedness and a 70s disco soundtrack. It could be the same with this. Dance music is the 90s equivalent of disco.

A bunch of Skrulls doing the Macarena is now something I need in my life.

They could reveal that the Skrull queen's name in the 1990s was Macarena before the later one named Veranke who succeeded her.

Well, there ya go, contradicted your own assertion. :P "Nu-metal" is basically another term for the rap-rock thing, your Limp Bizkits and Linkin Parks & Korns of the world.

Everywhere in the late 90s. I was making a distinction between that stuff and actual metal, which had sputtered out in a mainstream sense by then but was still pretty big for the first 5-6 years of the decade.

Korn and SOAD are both metal bands. Not trying to argue semantics about what specific metal sub-genre they fall under. There is some crossover between rap-metal and nu-metal, but it's not the same thing.

I really hope this movie goes all out on the 90s setting. It's easily my favorite musical era.

It's hard to say what music should show up when we don't exactly know what the tone of the movie will be.

Guardians showed how effectively music can be used in Marvel movies, I hope they strive for something along the lines of the GOTG soundtracks. I think it could be a very smart marketing move. I'm thinking the trailers will prominently feature some 90s music. I'm sure they'll have their own "Hooked on a Feeling".

I'm leaning towards more female vocalists for this one. Alanis would be perfect. So many iconic artists from that time though, Mariah Carey, Spice Girls, Gwen Stefani, TLC, Lauren Hill, and so many others. I look forward to hearing the soundtrack.

I'm also thinking mid-to late-90s. I love grunge, but I don't know if it feels right for this movie. I could get down with some Hole though.

I agree that it would be smart marketing to have a 90s soundtrack. A lot of people who might be in their 20s now would've grown up in the 90s. A soundtrack from that decade would play on their nostalgia.

Let's face it. It's not going to be an ultra serious movie. It's Marvel. For their first female hero they're not going to make it dark or even as dramatic as something like Winter Soldier.

It might not be full on Guardians, but as I mentioned before, even a film like the Martian, which was not a comedy but a serious drama, still had its lighthearted moments in the midst of Matt Damon's ordeal. It still had a fun soundtrack with songs like Hot Stuff by Donna Summer, Starman by David Bowie, Waterloo by Abba or I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor. You'd think those songs wouldn't lend themselves to serious space drama, but it still worked.

At most, Captain Marvel will be like the first Iron Man in tone. But it could easily be like Ant-Man too if they want to go lighter.

I forgot about Mariah Carey. Hero would be a perfect song for Carol.

But they can give Carol some cheesy tastes in music too, just so that they can allow for greater flexibility with the types of songs. It shouldn't be all heavy rock but should have some pop and dance music too.

The Macarena is a must though. I think that could be their "Hooked on a Feeling". That was a massive hit for three years running (95, 96 and 97) and currently ranks at #7 of the Billboard's All Time Top 100.

I would argue it's probably among the top 5 biggest hits of the decade. I'm not sure what else would be in that top 5, but probably songs like Wannabe, or Everything I do by Bryan Adams. However, they can't have that song because it's already associated with a movie soundtrack, and they should avoid those types.

Even now, people still get up and dance when the Macarena comes on. If you take its popularity and now associate it with Captain Marvel, imagine the commercial effect. And if you have the Skrulls dancing to it, it would be so unusual but iconic at the same time that everyone would always remember that scene.

I would love some Alice in Chains but it's way too dark for Disney.

Well we already had a reference to this 90s song in Black Panther:

People seemed to enjoy that, so have a full-blown 90s soundtrack for Captain Marvel would be a good bet.

Not just too dark for Disney, but to fit in with all the other 90s tracks.

This film needs songs like the Macarena (which is a huge iconic 90s song) and all the other ones mentioned like the Spice Girls, Oasis etc.

I really don't think they will have that many actual songs in the movie but I couldn't help trying to remember some 90s songs that might fit into a space/flying/female superhero film.
Ride - Vaportrail
Heavenly - Space Manatee
Hum - Stars
Tribe - Supercollider
Superdrag - Destination Ursa Major
Smashing Pumpkins - Rocket, Starla, Drown
Liz Phair - Supernova
Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
Beastie Boys - Intergalactic
Aquabats - Martian Girl!
Veruca Salt - Shimmer like a Girl
Go Sailor - Blue Sky
Helium - Leon's Space Song
Catherine Wheel w/Tanya Donnelly - Judy Staring at the Sun
Ecstasy of St. Theresa - Ice Cream Star

Nice choices.

All of my favorite bands from the 90's, whether it be the great Brit Pop, Grunge, or Alternative/progressive bands don't really have a lot of thematic connection in general, although I could probably find some.

I actually liked Brie's version of that Metric song from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World better than the original. That's partly why I wanted her for Dazzler instead of CM.

Well they could get Brie to sing a version of one of these 90s songs. The Spice Girls or something by B*witched. Or she could do the Macarena.

I would love for this soundtrack to feature some of Disney's more famous alumni -- Britney, Christina Aguilera, and Justin Timberlake -- along with other powerful female artists of today. The 90's were a melting pot of musical genres so I would love for that to be represented as well.

How can it feature Britney, Aguilera or Timberlake? They all rose to prominence in the 2000s. Their music didn't really exist in the 90s, which is when this movie is set.

All three made their debuts between 98-99.

Only one song and my guilty pleasure of all time (right next to Baby one more time from Britney):
Everybody (Backstreet Boys)

If Carol is still a Star Wars fan in this universe I can't wait for her reaction to the prequels and the current movies when she enters the modern day.

Pretty sure this thing'll be set a good deal before SW EpI hit in '99...

We don't know whether it's early 90s, mid 90s, late 90s, but you'd sorta figure them saying "90s setting" wouldn't mean...99. :oldrazz:

I want the scene in Avengers 4 where CM and Star-Lord are listening to modern music and both are disgusted by how s#itty Earth's music become xD
