Horror A "Wolfman" Reboot Already Underway

I hope it doesn’t stop their James Wan Creature from the Black Lagoon remake as I’m very curious what will do with it.

And I’m curious what the Ryan Gosling version of this originally was before he walked cause of “creative differences”.

I'd also be curious to know what Ryan Gosling was looking for with the project because supposedly this was a passion project for him. But I found Whannell's take to just be very flaccid and toothless. Maybe Gosling saw that direction and bailed?

IMHO Guillermo Del Toro already did the best possible update of Creature From the Black Lagoon with Shape of Water.

I found it lacking and very bland. The characters were way too underdeveloped. Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner also had no chemistry and Garner's character was paper-thin. Was hard to get invested in their characters.

The Blumhouse Universal Monsters experiment has failed IMHO.

Come on. Invisible Man was a great success. And yeah, this movie didn't succeed. But, we are talking about a $25 million movie. I would not call it something that will cause an immediate rethinking.

IMHO 50-50 is not a good record.

The key of horror, is low risk, high reward.

Again, $25 million movie. Probably $30 global take. Yeah, not profitable. But not catastrophic. Not seeing why they would not try a few more times.

I personally enjoyed this take for what it was. Different vibe than previous Wolfman films with the slow "disease" transformation, and a story told on a small scale.

Agree that Garner was miscast.

I doubt this even makes $30 million worldwide.

Just eh. Just because a movie is boring and isn’t doing anything doesn’t make it deep or thoughtful. Didn’t like the design, or the second half of movie. Positives were good tone, I do like dark and dreary. Decent premise but not executed well at all. Dialogue was shaky. 6.5/10.

While this is Whannells 'worst' movie so far, I certainly didn't hate it and enjoyed it a good bit. I do think it would have been better had there been 2 nights of transformation instead of just 1 as they could have ramped things up more.

The design wasn't bad but it wasn't particularly scary either. I thought the finale and especially the resolution of it lacked some, well, bite. It maybe needed another victim or 2 throughout just to show how savage this creature was. Thought the twist was pretty obvious.

I liked the cast and thought everything with the body horror and slow transformation was well done. No CGI also or at least none that was obvious. I would certainly watch another but that's looking unlikely at this point. 6/10.

The transformation maybe needed one more final stage.

I found this to be pretty sad, actually. As a father myself, it was uncomfortable to watch him slowly lose himself and lose sight of his family as his daughter watched everything unfold. I liked how they highlighted that he could no longer speak, and stopped being able to understand what his wife and daughter were saying. Some cool touches to a story that's been told dozens of times over.

I'll always give credit to a filmmaker who tries to do something different with an established property, rather than remaking the same old story.

Yeah I did like that touch in the movie. 'Wolf vision' was pretty cool as well as the transformation and him losing his speech. The movie was quite touching in places also. I am surprised how low the critic response was really.

Finally got to watch this tonight and I actually enjoyed this for the most part. It's nowhere near the quality of Invisible Man which I thought was great but Whannell's direction here was really solid and the sound design is pretty fantastic.

On a technical level this was really well made and I didn't have any problems with any of the performances but I do wish this was called anything else other than Wolf Man.

As a standalone body horror influenced werewolf flick it's pretty decent IMO but its not a very satisfying Wolf Man movie especially when you consider the werewolf designs which were just lacking across the board.

6.5/10

Yeah I fully with you buddy, especially the bolded. I think with a better WW design and especially one more terrifying a of the movie would have been more effective. Especially the finale.
