ABC Family's 'Shadowhunters' series based on 'The Mortal Instruments'

I believe this starts tonight. I don't normally watch anything on ABC Family, but I'll give this a shot.

Saw a commercial for this. Looks like utter ****.

Ok, I gave the first episode a shot. It's full of bad acting, though lead girl's alright, and the guy getting killed from the syringe to the neck was the best acting in the show. Unfortunately he's dead now :) Anyway, yeah, shouldn't have expected much more from a genre show on ABC Family.

The first episode has ably met my very low expectations, so what the hell, I'll stick with it a little while.

Anyone else notice that a few of the show's changes from the book were similarly changed in the movie? Like how they just told us right away that Clary's mom is a Shadowhunter, while the book kept that a secret for a while.

The guy getting killed fromo the syringe to the neck was the best acting in the show.
It was, wasn't it? :D I liked that part too.

My wife has read the books....she looked forward to the theatrical movie, and was disappointed by it....then she heard about the series, she said maybe they will do better....her reaction to the series in unprintable here because I don't want to infract myself. Suffice to say...she was more disappointed by it.

I watched 20 minutes of this. It was way too long. It is quite terrible.

The second episode was better than the first, as the plot makes sense.

Just saw the first two episodes, not bad, Katherine McNamara is awesome.

I haven't read the books though I did watch half the movie which I found boring so I haven't watched the rest yet.

My sister though, has read the books and watched the movie and she was beyond disappointed with the two episodes. So it's safe to say the show is struggling so far.

The show's version of Hodge is...pretty terrible. I don't know how he's described in the books (just that Jared Harris played him in the film) but the pretty-boy actor they just isn't working, especially with the unfortunate volume of exposition he got saddled with.

Harry Shum Jr. is great as Bane tho. Pretty much the opposite situation with him.

Having read some of the books and watched the movie already, I wonder if the show will get marginally more watchable after they've burned through all the stuff that the movie already covered (that would be Book 1). I probably won't miss it if it gets cancelled before then though, so whatever.

The episodes improve over time, as the real progress starts at episode 5, and since every episode has gotten better.

I like Lydia Branwell, since some fans don't. I like the idea of a brand new character being brought in to spice up the story a little.

As much as I love Clary and Isabelle, another female shadowhunter was needed.

I hope Lydia Branwell is a regular on the next season.

Her character interests me because she is an original character, as the writers can go anywhere with her.

To be honest, the main reason I watch this show is because of the lovely Katherine McNamara.

Renewed

I'm glad, since the show can become even better. :ilv:

In the next season, I want to see more shadowhunters other than the main four.

Lydia really redeemed herself in the last two episodes and made me change my original opinion of her.

I hope she sticks around and is not killed off.

Season 2 getting 20 episodes was a surprise, as I hope they keep up the good progress.

And don't fall into the bad habits Teen Wolf and Supernatural have fallen into.

How was this series? I'm debating buying it on iTunes since I missed some episodes on Hulu.
