With Disney now owns Marvel and also ABC (which produced this new series), it's interesting that instead of developing a Fantastic Four series, they decided to make one that is clearly inspired by it. Maybe it is because Fox still holds the rights for F4.
Plus a Fantastic Four series would probably be a bit more expensive because of the effects. Look at the special effects we get with shows like Heroes, we get nothing like Mr. Fantastic or the Human Torch. Hell, we can't even get a smoke monster transformation scene in Lost. Also, could you imagine the poor guy that would have to suit up as Ben for an entire season? That would blow.
It was alright. A bit better than I was expecting, but then again I wasnt very interested to begin with
Chiklis, Malco, Benz, Reeser and other adult characters put up good performances. The kids were...subpar. The daughter was the typical whiny daughter, which I know happens alot in real life but I'm tired of it in TV shows. And she had an outburst in here that reminded me on why parents should be alot stricter. And then the son wasnt really used much. He had 1 brief scene with his powers while the rest of the family had at least 2.
It had good funny moments. The characters did play off each other well.
It was very family friendly. There was minor blood, minor talk about sex I don't think I even caught a curse word.I wouldnt have a problem watching this with my family or with my younger cousins and I liked that alot. There aren't many good shows I like watching with a 5 year old that isnt a cartoon. Hell, I dont think there are alot of good live action shows that the kids can enjoy and the adults don't feel dumb for watching.
It felt short. A 2 hours or at least 90 min pilot probably wouldve worked better. One of the weirdest things though is that these people get into a plane crash and then they are mentally fine afterwards and it seems as if it never happened. They were cracking jokes about it and talking about it like it was nothing...despite the fact that the pilot died. Also it just seemed that people were so quick to be on board with everything. Romany Malco's character with pointing a gun at Chiklis, Autumn Reeser's character with calculating Benz's character's speed for example
The powers were showcased well, especially the superspeed. I didnt really like how the powers were given for the sake of irony. The wife who is always late gets superspeed, the husband who feels weak gets superstrength, academically challenged kid gets super intelligence. The daughter who's oblivious to people's thoughts gets telepathy. It felt kinda corny.
The highlight of the pilot to me was a brief fight scene in the 2nd half. It was short, but I thought it was really bad ass.
Think Luke Cage vs. Nightcrawler
^^^Brief description of fight scene. Put it in spoilers for those who want to be surprised.
I know because of budget they might not do this often, but I hope they have a super power fight scene as good as the pilot's every week.
I was only mildly interested in this show before. I liked alot of the actors attached, but the premise just seemed like Fantastic Four/The Incredibles lite (which it is, but It actually ended up working for the show). But the pilot got me interested enough to want to see more. I'll be tuning in to watch the pilot again and the following episodes.
6.5/10. That might seem a bit low, but I actually expected this show to be a 4 and it was better than alot of pilots to some shows
If anyone else wants to watch the pilot, go to NoOrdinaryScreening.com, and enter password "Extraordinary." It's pretty limited, so no guarantee that you'll get to see it. I am in the middle of watching it now.
Wow. I actually liked it. The beginning felt rushed, but the pace overall was great. They were able to delve into the powers of the main characters (gotta face it, it's the mom and dad), while briefly introducing the kids' powers, which I'm sure will be explored in further episodes.

Well, in Heroes, it was sort of implied [and in fact outright mentioned] that the way the person thought determined what kind of power they eventually grew. Maybe this one works similar, in that whatever granted their powers gave them what they wanted the most, whether they knew what it was or not.
HOLY CRAP, that was awesome. Your description was perfect. I really didn't expect [BLACKOUT]superpowered villains[/BLACKOUT] to be explored right from the get-go, but damn, am I looking forward to more!

This one's definitely a lock in my DVR. Also, having essentially a [BLACKOUT]DA and a scientist sidekick[/BLACKOUT] for the parents raises some quality possibilities.

It was decent enough. Kinda rushed in the setup and some dubious coincidences, but the show flows OK with it. I'm interested in seeing where they'll go with this, but I have a feeling the 'family repair' aspect of it is going to wear on me.
Loved the superspeed effects; a desire for comparable stuff on a Flash movie promptly came to mind. Nice effects too in the surprise fight between Chiklis' character and the robber. Didn't see that coming. Potential to do something there as well. I'll be tuning in for at least the first handful of eps or so.
I am hoping that the therapy session was just a vehicle for the main characters to be able to narrate the pilot. I sure hope it doesn't get emhpasized on and becomes a recurring thing.
Keep in mind, this was an early pilot, and they're looking to tweak some things before the premiere.
As far as the effects, I hope THAT turns into a recurring thing. Best superhero effects that I've seen so far on the small-screen.
Anyone else love the fact that the comic-geek/lab-tech "sidekick" was already addressing the science of superspeed as she was measuring Stephanie's speed?
Dammit. You just made me watch it again too. I love how they [BLACKOUT]maintain the bad guy's exact form when he teleports to when he materializes, especially when he's thrown and teleports[/BLACKOUT].
Just watched the pilot and enjoyed it for the most part, I really didn't like the Mom for some reason though. The effects were cool as well. Now that Heroes is gone No Ordinary Family will be my Monday night superhero fix.
I liked it except for the daughter. She was annoying.
So we know that this family are not the only people with Super Powers. Are they going to form their own team down the line ? I can see the dad doing that with his police connections

Being a super genius is not limited, ask Tony Stark, Reed Richards or Hank Pym. Telekinesis should absolutely not be part of his powers, unless they give the father flight and the mother the speed force. One thing I hope they don't do is grow the girl's telepathy out of control too fast, because it should be the answer to every problem very quickly.
Overall, I love the show, and yeah, the beginning was rushed, which I also kind of appreciated. The narration helped smooth it out and I don't think I need 20 minutes of ordinary family. I was expecting much less of the show after reading a review here, but I believe things like the friend shooting him and the lab girl's clocking her speed were very well and believably handled, though it was weird for a "D.A." to be advocating vigilanteism.
I think the special effects are going to be spiffy especially when compared to Heroes because I heard it costs a crapload of money just to film in NYC.
I hope the series will be more episodic in nature rather than continuosly developing the main storyline like Heroes.
