I'll endeavour to keep this as clean as possible, and I apologise in advance if this isn't allowed here (though it is only to be a discussion; no images or explicit details).

I'm sure most people, if not everyone knows what I refer to as adult entertainment, and I'm sure we've all seen some aspect of it at some point in our lives, whether accidental, intentional or by pure chance. I was talking to a friend about the industry the other day, about the publicity behind it, about the stars, their lifestyles, and ultimately, some of their mental states.

I wasn't aware of this either, but that industry even has their own award ceremonies. Kinda absurd really, but there's a lot of money in it. It's not really a shock as to why most men would choose to get involved in this industry, but for many of the women, I'm not so sure.

Does anyone else think this? Maybe ... pity those involved; some of them at least, if they (maybe) seem like they're in the business by chance or circumstance rather than by choice, and are being extorted or ... I wouldn't say forced, but coerced somehow?

Occasionally you'll hear of (or if you're unlucky, you'll see) a scene involving a person with a Horse, a Dog, a group of guys, or something that shouldn't fit where it does, and you've just gotta' ask why.

Yeah, we all know about porn and how some of the people are treated and how creepy it can get behind the scenes. Ironically though most people still watch it regardless. You have those that try and watch only stuff they know was kinda done on the up and up, so to speak, but most people genuinely don't think about it.

It has a lot of stigma to it for sure although I can't say to how much of it is coerced or forced by circumstance (depending on who you ask it is all or only a few). That can apply to a lot of unsavory but otherwise "reputable" jobs like working fast food or retail where you get treated like disposable trash too. Having worked both fast food and retail in the past, even briefly, I can understand how much someone might prefer to do something else for a paycheck.

The industry also has a bad reputation right off the bat so anything unfortunate is magnified but I also think a lot of people go into it by choice, whether it's for the money or they actually enjoy the profession.

Of course there are going to be those who were in some way given no choice but (and it is a step above sex traffic for some) though I can't say I would condemn the entire industry for what some people do any more than I would fast food. Every profession has a few people in it by circumstance or lack of alternatives.

More than likely a lot of those performers were sexually abused or faced some kind of trauma in their lives.

Then the other half are just freaks (and by that I mean just have a voracious sexual appetite).

Religion (whether it be Christianity or another religion one was taught while growing up or gained at a later point) and consumerism are a couple of different subjects that come to mind when this subject comes up. I'll focus on the consumerist standpoint for now...

On a totally different subject after reading another thread here regarding consummerism:
I was reading about the Popeyes chicken sandwich rhetorical "dipsh!@" of the year award bashing DJ and supposed face of dubstep Diplo on his Popeyes chicken sandwich social media joke en route to the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert about 100 miles NE of Reno months ago; since then a small amount of violence pertaining to what I ponder may or may not be contextualized as Black Friday-esque gotta-have-it syndrome.

From the 10 principals established by co-founder Lary Harvey (https://brokeassstuart.com/sf/2019/09/03/diplo-wins-burning-man-*****ebag-of-the-year-award/) Burning Man has a principal of decommodification in response to consumerism:
“IN ORDER TO PRESERVE THE SPIRIT OF GIFTING, OUR COMMUNITY SEEKS TO CREATE SOCIAL ENVIRONMENTS THAT ARE UNMEDIATED BY COMMERCIAL SPONSORSHIPS, TRANSACTIONS, OR ADVERTISING. WE STAND READY TO PROTECT OUR CULTURE FROM SUCH EXPLOITATION. WE RESIST THE SUBSTITUTION OF CONSUMPTION FOR PARTICIPATORY EXPERIENCE.”

It’s well known that Burning Man is so anti-commercialism that you can’t even use money at the festival, except to buy ice or coffee. There are no corporate booths, marketing merch tables or billboards, or beverage sponsors in the Black Rock Desert. There are only temporary structures, art cars, pop-up kitchens, playgrounds, and dancefloors build mostly by you, your friends, and your fellow burners (and the sherpas hired to give tech CEO’s an ‘authentic experience’). And that’s why the festival is still special.

We hope all of you artists, freaks, friends, crafters, rangers, dancers, and newbies all had a great burn this year! Burning Man is a great place for art, community, music, gifting, hedonism, self-expression, self-discovery, and self-reliance. Founded by a community who wanted an environment “unmediated by commercial sponsorships, transactions, or advertising”, which is why we are awarding the Burning Man *****e Bag of the Year to DJ Diplo, for using the festival for corporate advertising! Diplo & Popeyes’ chicken teamed up this year to use Burning Man to market fast food. Thanks for the awesome contribution to the playa *****ebags!

Where am I going with this? Well, there's tents at Burning Man that actually have swinging couples that DECIDE to swing so to speak. It's the adult industry from a different kind of social slant that I find maybe irresponsible to post about but as an adult one has to make decisions and if that's what people want to do as an adult then that's what people want to do consumerist or not.

On my way to work this morning I drove by a "gentleman's club" on Kst in DC. There was a shuttle bus and a huge SUV, like the Fed's drive to escort dignitaries, parked out front. This was 9:30 am. Those poor girls had to be there super early and put on their best customer service face at the break of dawn. I hope they had plenty coffee and plenty of large bills stuffed in their unmentionables.
^FYI-I am no ray of sunshine in the morning. Peep the avvy, that is so me in the morning.

Slightly off topic but I went to Amsterdam for the first time a few weeks ago. We did a tour of the Red Light District (RLD) and you know you're old when they stuff like (Yes, all the ladies in the window get free STD testing. Oh, it's voluntary.) is now an out. But a lot of them are from eastern Europe. They send home their money. The windows cost 150 Euros a day and they charge 50 Euros for 15 minutes.

A club in the next town over from mine has "Legs and Eggs" on friday mornings at 8 or 9 am
They have the girls out, plus a full breakfast buffet

and from what I hear the food is actually surprisingly good
(My Avvy could tell you, never turn down a strip club buffet, lol)

I don’t know what the strip clubs in DC are, but what type of girls will be working at a strip club at 9 AM on a Monday?

I thought you already knew... :p

Do you guys still have those places where you insert a coin, the curtains go up and there's the girl? But you can only watch, the girl is on the other side of the glass. Very 80s.

Women with cesarian scars aren't my thing.

And I think you are confusing strip clubs with peep shows.

Not the ones working the day shift.

Oh
And I think you are confusing strip clubs with peep shows.

Oh, no. Just that I had no idea that those places are called "peep show", now I do. But I do know those two are different things.

Sorry. Will not ask further.

Now I'm thinking of that scene in Clerks where they talk about nudey booths

In the era of free products I can't imagine why any actors are paid. Unless it is by a co star. If a video is produced prostitution charges being dismissed. And if was totally "amateur" why awards promotions and star status?

Sites get sponsored, like most online personalities

We sure do.

We're talking about the Zack Snyder DCEU right? Not like that kiddy Marvel stuff. ;)

I don’t see why they shouldn’t have an awards night. It’s a trade like any other and it’s a good opportunity for them to mingle and maybe talk about any issues that might need talking about
