2007: Al Pacino

35th AFI Life Achievement Award

Al Pacino has been selected by the American Film Institute's Board of Trustees to receive the 35th AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film.

"Al Pacino is an icon of American film. He has created some of the great characters in the movies--from Michael Corleone to Tony Montana to Roy Cohn. His career inspires audiences and artists alike, with each new performance a master class for a generation of actors to follow. AFI is proud to present him with its 35th Life Achievement Award."
- Sir Howard Stringer, chair, AFI Board of Trustees

The award will be presented to Pacino at a gala tribute in Los Angeles on June 7, 2007. USA Network will broadcast the 35th AFI Life Achievement Award tribute in June 2007.

I love this man. I think my first Pacino movie was Dog Day Afternoon. I watched it over and over again. He's still going strong.
Anybody else have a first Pacino moment/favorite? I'm not doing a poll.

I thought he had already gotten an AFI award

I was thinking of the Golden Globes...I think

f**k yeah, pacino! he undeniably deserves the award.

super good flick
but i think Bobby and Val out-shine Pacino in this movie.

All the prizes are well deserved talking about a cinema modern legend like Al Pacino is.

Goodfather movies, dog day afternoon, scarface, serpico, the scarecrow(underrated movie), heat, scent of woman, glengarry glenn rose, donie brasco, etc. Alfred James Pacino is the man.

Also , he is a julie christie fan too, just like me. Once he was asked: name an actor or actress that you would like to work with. Pacino said: Julie Christie, because she is the most poetic of the actresses.

Very clever guy.

I think his best performance ever is either Sonny in Dog Day Afternoon or Michael Corleone in The Godfather Part II.

Finally....

Among the grestest of all-time.

Pacino was better in the 70's,He's too over the top now.

Eh, he's kinda right. He hasn't been in anything overly impressive since 1997 (Devil's Advocate, Donnie Brasco). I mean the man did Gigli.

Nothing impressive since '97?

Angels in America
Insomnia
The Insider
The Merchant of Venice
Any Given Sunday

Just a reminder. It's on USA tonight at 9PM.

I'm not the biggest fan of Robin Williams but I have to admit he was making me laugh during the opening there.
